Purpose/Summary:

The Senior Manager, Commercial Finance is a key member of the Financial Planning & Analysis group within Ironwood’s Finance Department, reporting to the Head of FP&A, and serves as a strategic finance business partner to Ironwood's Commercial function. This role leads financial planning, performance analysis, gross-to-net (“GTN”) reporting, and decision support for Ironwood's commercial business and is a key finance interface for the company’s collaboration arrangement with AbbVie for LINZESS, a blockbuster GI brand. This role will also lead Commercial finance efforts for any future product launches in partnership with the Commercial function. The position plays a critical role in planning and forecasting, assessing business performance, driving revenue, evaluating strategic opportunities, and providing actionable insights that influence commercial decision-making, in collaboration with commercial analytics.

The ideal candidate combines strong commercial biotech experience and understanding of pharmaceutical cash flows and contributors to gross and net sales knowledge with executive presence, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate complex financial information into clear business recommendations.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary Finance business partner to the Chief Commercial Officer and Commercial organization, providing performance analysis, strategic guidance on investments, resource allocation, and business priorities.
  • Lead internal forecasting from gross-to-net sales through revenue, including development of long-range assumptions, price and channel sensitivity analyses, impacts of pharmaceutical contracting, new policy impacts, and scenario-based models.
  • Lead Commercial Finance processes for the Annual Operating Plan, Mid-Year Forecast, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning, ensuring timely and aligned cross-functional inputs.
  • Own quarterly Commercial financial close and reporting processes, including variance analysis, GTN reporting and reserve analysis, collaboration settlement reviews, and preparation of executive-ready review materials.
  • Develop business cases, cost models, ROI analyses, and financial recommendations for commercial programs, market opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a key Finance representative for the Ironwood-AbbVie collaboration for LINZESS, supporting partnership forecasts, business reviews, and strategic decision-making.
  • Lead quarterly and annual Commercial reviews, analyzing business drivers, market dynamics, competitive impacts, risks, and opportunities in collaboration with commercial insights team.
  • Translate complex financial and commercial results into clear, actionable recommendations and executive-level presentations for senior leadership and governance forums.
  • Manage departmental budgets and expense forecasts across Commercial functions while driving improvements in forecast accuracy, planning efficiency, and insight generation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required; MBA, MS Finance, or CPA/CFA preferred.
  • 8–12+ years of progressive financial experience, including ownership of budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and executive level financial analytics
  • 5+ year supporting commercial biotech / pharma organization, leading GTN reporting
  • Strong experience with financial systems (Adaptive Insights and SAP preferred)
  • Strong understanding of P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow mechanics
  • Ability to partner effectively with senior leadership, communicate complex financial information clearly, and influence decision making.
  • Experience working in environments requiring SOX compliance, financial controls, and cross functional collaboration with Accounting, IT, and business partners.

Ironwood currently anticipates that the initial base salary for this position could range from between $148,000-$176,000.  The actual base salary will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience.  Ironwood offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits program to eligible employees, including Restricted Stock Unit awards; eligibility to participate in either a bonus or sales incentive program; company-sponsored 401(k) with matching contributions; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; wellness stipends; and a generous vacation/holiday schedule.
