Optics & Photonics Technician

About the role

We are seeking a sharp, motivated technician to maintain and operate our lithography and metrology systems. Your work will greatly impact our progress in 3D nano-fabrication technology that could fundamentally change countless technologies that people rely on every day. In day-to-day work you’ll ensure smooth operation of equipment by following detailed workflows, providing critical feedback to the team on our systems and SOPs, and expanding the capabilities of our existing team.

What You’ll Do

• Maintain smooth operation and high utilization of multiple lithography and optical metrology systems. 
• Ensure that prints and metrology data are collected in a timely manner according to plan.
• Contribute to documentation and provide feedback for improving our work.
• Assume increasing ownership of the work to free up bandwidth of the current team.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience with operation and calibration of precision and sensitive equipment like optical microscopes, interferometers, and spectrometers.
• Excellent fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination for working on instrumentation, handling very delicate parts, and aligning mirrors and lenses with high attention to detail.
• Solid written and oral communication skills. It’s critical for the person in this role to contribute to technical note-taking, documentation, and day-to-day feedback and information-sharing among the team.
• Basic understanding and curiosity about lithography processes, optics, precision manufacturing or semiconductor manufacturing.
• Nice to have: Basic scripting and data analysis with Python or MATLAB.
• Attention to detail & observation skills: You're able to read SOPs, follow instructions, and carry out work with great care to ensure minimal errors. You're consistently observing and writing down/remembering details that go wrong with the process to giving feedback to the engineer.
• Organized: You handle things methodically so that nothing is missed, documentation is followed, and new documentation can be made with new processes. 
• Curious & willing to learn: We’re changing a lot of stuff all the time, so learning to operate new equipment and adapting in a dynamic environment is valuable. All our equipment is constantly improving – they are ‘living’ and ‘growing’! 
• Steady and consistent: Keep a cool head when there are timeline pressures or when things go awry. Our work involves lots of iterating as we develop our technology, and we need to work through difficulties efficiently and positively to avoid costly missteps.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $54,219-$77,923 and includes equity. We are committed to equitable compensation across our company. We handle our benefits through an annual reimbursement to give our employees greater flexibility with the plans that meet their needs.
