Materials R&D Technician
About the role
Irradiant is seeking a bright and motivated Materials R&D Technician to help shape the future of 3D nanofabrication. This role will play a key part in researching, developing and characterizing novel materials to enable Irradiant’s nanofabrication platform. Ideal candidates will bring expertise in materials synthesis, processing and analysis, along with a hands-on, innovative approach to problem-solving. Collaboration with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing and product teams will be critical in optimizing materials and translating scientific insights into scalable, manufacturable solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in developing and optimizing materials to enhance performance and throughput in 3D nanofabrication processes.
- Conduct consistent measurements and characterization to maintain quality of fabricated structures.
- Support efforts to scale up production of materials and components.
- Identify and evaluate materials solutions for packaging and prototyping needs.
- Proactively troubleshoot and solve materials-related challenges in a dynamic R&D environment.
What You’ll Bring
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, working with materials preparation, synthesis and characterization
- Familiarity with common materials characterization techniques (e.g. profilometry, ellipsometry, spectroscopy, optical and electron microscopy)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow experimental protocols. You're able to read SOPs, follow instructions, and carry out work with great care to ensure minimal errors
- Excellent organizational and communication skills. You handle things methodically and proactively contribute to technical note-taking, documentation and day-to-day information-sharing among the team
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced research and development environment
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in materials science, chemistry, engineering or related fields
- Nice to have: experience in basic scripting and data analysis with Python or MATLAB
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $58,000 - $80,000, and includes equity. We are committed to equitable compensation across our company. In addition, we reimburse up to $7,200 annually in healthcare expenses, giving our employees greater flexibility with healthcare plans that meet their needs. We offer a Flexible Paid Time Off policy and encourage people to take regular vacation.
