Inorganic Chemist/Materials Scientist

Waltham, Massachusetts, United States

About the role

Irradiant is seeking a skilled inorganic chemist or materials scientist to help shape the future of 3D nanofabrication. This role will play a key part in developing and characterizing novel materials to enable Irradiant’s nanofabrication platform. Ideal candidates will have a background in nanomaterials synthesis and an interest in optical, photonic, and nanoelectronic applications. This person will work directly on developing novel techniques for synthesizing and patterning electrically conductive or high refractive index nanomaterial into nanoporous scaffolds for 3D electronics/photonics using multiphoton lithography. Collaboration with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing and product teams will be critical in optimizing materials and translating scientific insights into scalable, manufacturable solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and undertake syntheses for functional inorganic nanomaterials.
  • Refine, streamline, and scale up existing synthesis and material fabrication techniques.
  • Develop and execute metrology techniques for synthesized materials
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to integrate novel materials into existing or new patterning processes.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in inorganic material synthesis, nanoparticle synthesis, or nanomaterial surface functionalization.
  • Familiarity with experimental design.
  • Knowledge of optics, photonics, or electronic applications of nanomaterials.
  • Experience with common characterization techniques such as UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence characterization, optical microscopy, etc.
  • Experience or knowledge of advanced characterization techniques such as EDS, XRD, NMR, SEM, TEM etc.
