Software Development Engineer 1

What You’ll Be Part Of:
You’ll join a team dedicated to helping brands deliver their strongest creative advertising by combining quantitative performance data with qualitative insights. We build systems that evaluate creative effectiveness, surface actionable recommendations, and empower marketers to make smarter decisions. Your work will directly influence how brands understand, measure, and optimize their creative impact at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Develop small, well‑scoped features that support creative analytics, insights, and reporting workflows.
- Write unit, component, contract, and integration tests as part of feature development.
- Debug and validate your own code; document how features should be tested.
- Run all relevant test types (unit, integration, end‑to‑end, regression, performance) to ensure feature quality.
- Contribute to release readiness by reporting status and raising flags when needed.
- Collect and report metrics; assist in investigating incidents and alerts with guidance.
- Participate in root‑cause analysis for standard issues.
- Identify basic risks and dependencies with support from senior engineers.
- Author technical designs for small features or components.
- Apply classical data structures, algorithms, and resource‑management techniques.
- Collaborate with teammates to coordinate work and maintain strong follow‑through.
- Communicate clearly with your manager and small teams; escalate issues appropriately.
- Use AI tools (with guidance) to accelerate coding, testing, documentation, and code exploration.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Some software engineering experience (professional, academic, or internship).
- Ability to write clean, testable code and debug effectively.
- Understanding of unit, integration, and end‑to‑end testing practices.
- Familiarity with release processes and CI/CD concepts.
- Basic experience with telemetry, metrics, or logging.
- Ability to analyze problems using standard data structures and algorithms.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions and seek guidance.
- Results‑oriented mindset with attention to quality and follow‑through.
Preferred Skills:
Backend Development
- Languages & Environments: Golang, Python (Django/Flask), or Java (Spring Boot).
- API Architecture: RESTful APIs (standard) and gRPC (modern alternative).
- Server Logic: Authentication (JWT/OAuth), authorization,
Database Management
- Relational (SQL): PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server for structured data.
- Non-Relational (NoSQL): Redis for caching.
- Querying: Proficiency in writing SQL queries and utilizing ORMs (like Prisma or Sequelize).
Additional Notes:
This role is ideal for early‑career engineers who want to grow while contributing to a product that blends creativity, data, and engineering. You’ll receive mentorship from senior engineers and have opportunities to expand your technical depth over time
Target cash compensation range: $95,950 - $106,000 USD Annually
We are committed to providing competitive, market-informed compensation. The cash compensation above includes base salary, variable commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, all full time iSpotters are eligible to participate in iSpot’s equity plan to receive stock options. Non-exempt roles will also be eligible for (pre-approved) overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are influenced by different factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons.

Hybrid & Flexible Workplace Policy
iSpot supports a hybrid and flexible workplace. Depending on location and work responsibilities, employees may be designated as full-time or part-time office-based or a fully remote employee. A hybrid work schedule indicates that you work in the office some days and work from home other days. The best hybrid workplaces allow for flexibility while also encouraging consistency.
Those local or living in surrounding areas to one of our offices (Bellevue, WA or New York, NY) will work a hybrid schedule, coming into their local office 1-3 days a week. While those in a role, not office-based and located further away from our offices, will work a fully remote schedule.
