Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Java API & COBOL Developer to join our team in supporting the modernization and maintenance of critical healthcare systems for U.S. Medicare beneficiaries. This role will be part of an agile development team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance APIs in a mainframe environment. The ideal candidate is a strong collaborator, thrives in a structured environment, and is comfortable working within government healthcare systems.
This is a remote position open to U.S.-based candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop & maintain Java APIs that integrate with COBOL-based backend systems.
Design and implement high-performance, scalable applications in Java and AWS.
Work in an Agile/Scrum environment, participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups.
Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to define requirements and feasibility.
Provide expertise in mainframe development (COBOL, CICS, JCL, VSAM).
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring system stability and efficiency.
Conduct code reviews and peer testing to maintain code quality.
Document technical designs, update Jira tickets, and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Minimum Requirements:
✅ 8+ years of experience in software development, including Java API development.✅ Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful API development.✅ Experience with COBOL and mainframe technologies (JCL, VSAM, CICS, TSO, ISPF).✅ Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.✅ Proficiency in Git, Jira, and Confluence for version control and collaboration.✅ Familiarity with AWS cloud technologies (S3, Lambda, API Gateway) is a plus.✅ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently within tight deadlines.✅ Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a structured environment.
💡 Preferred but Not Required:
Prior experience working with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) or similar government healthcare projects.
Experience in financial services or insurance with large-scale legacy system modernization.
