Data Analyst

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst to support a strategic enterprise data modernization initiative leveraging Microsoft Fabric. This role will partner with business stakeholders, data owners, technical teams, and project leadership to define business requirements, analyze data needs, document current and future-state processes, and support the implementation of a centralized enterprise data platform.

The ideal candidate possesses a blend of business analysis and data analysis experience, with the ability to translate business objectives into actionable requirements while ensuring data quality, governance, reporting, and analytics needs are fully understood and documented.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with business units to gather, analyze, and document business, functional, reporting, and data requirements.
  • Facilitate stakeholder interviews, workshops, and discovery sessions to understand business processes, data usage, and reporting needs.
  • Document current-state and future-state business processes and identify opportunities for process improvement and data optimization.
  • Develop and maintain:
    • Business Requirements Documents (BRDs)
    • Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs)
    • User Stories and Acceptance Criteria
    • Process Flows and Data Flow Diagrams
    • Business Rules and Data Definitions

 

Data Analysis & Requirements Definition

  • Analyze data across multiple source systems to identify business rules, relationships, data dependencies, and quality issues.
  • Define and document source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, and data lineage requirements.
  • Work with business and technical teams to establish common business definitions and data standards.
  • Support data governance initiatives, including metadata management, data quality, and master data considerations.
  • Assist in defining enterprise reporting, dashboard, KPI, and analytics requirements.

 

Data Analysis & Requirements Definition

  • Analyze data across multiple source systems to identify business rules, relationships, data dependencies, and quality issues.

Reporting & Analytics Support

  • Work with business stakeholders to define reporting, dashboard, and KPI requirements.
  • Support development and validation of Power BI reports and analytics solutions.
  • Assist users in understanding available data assets and reporting capabilities within Microsoft Fabric.

 

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or hybrid Business/Data Analyst.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering and documenting business and technical requirements for enterprise data initiatives.
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and business processes.
  • Experience documenting data mappings, transformation rules, and business logic.
  • Experience supporting data warehouse, reporting, analytics, or enterprise data platform initiatives.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, Power BI, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, or similar cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise data warehouse, lakehouse, or data modernization initiatives.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data querying techniques.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT processes and enterprise system integrations.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, Visio, and Microsoft Office Suite

 

 

Work Environment

  • Hybrid: 3 days onsite per week - Dulles, VA
