About This Role

The Sr. Director, Head of Finance is charged with overseeing the financial strategy and management of the financial organization of this indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Italfarmaco, SpA.  This person serves as a strategic business partner to the President, Board, COO, and leadership team and maintains responsibility for all corporate financial functions, including accounting, AP, Order-to-cash, audit, treasury, investments, financial operations, planning & forecasting, risk management, and tax.  They will also be the primary point of contact and collaboration with ITF Group Central Finance function. The Sr. Director Finance is a highly collaborative member of the ITF team, outward looking, strategically engaged, market sensitive and attuned to the urgency, pace and energy of the Company as it commercializes its rare disease drug. 

This role is responsible for compliance with both statutory and management reporting obligations ensuring that ITF maintains the highest level of ethics, profitability, financial strength and operating efficiency as the Company deepens the launch of this critically important medicine. 

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee all aspects of financial planning and reporting, including the controller function, accounting, treasury, tax strategy and compliance, and external tax advisors, to ensure compliance with financial reporting standards, shareholder and ITF Group requirements, as well as statutory and legal requirements. 
  • Lead monthly close, forecasting, and annual planning activities, including headcount, operating expenses, and capital investments, by working closely with internal and external partners to support strategic planning and operational decision-making. 
  • Lead the budgeting process, including developing, communicating, and driving budget timelines; creating an efficient and effective review structure with leadership; creating budget templates; creating and maintaining budget roll-up files; and preparing budget deliverables for the Executive Leadership Team. 
  • Develop policies and programs to reflect the desired standard of performance for the finance function, using both internal staff and external consultants, as appropriate. 
  • Maintain ITF’s insurance policies and risk management program. 
  • Lead all treasury activities, including building and maintaining banking relationships. 
  • Serve as the liaison to key vendors, including financial institutions, external tax and financial accountants, auditors, and attorneys, as appropriate. 
  • Oversee cash flow planning and manage cash management goals for the organization. 
  • Maintain ITF’s investment policy and strategy. 
  • Improve ITF’s accounting operations, including AP, Treasury, Expense Reports, and Payroll. 
  • Partner with Market Access and external parties to understand ITF’s returns, rebates, copay liabilities, government pricing requirements, HCP transparency reporting, and other gross-to-net sales adjustments to ensure complete and accurate accruals and reporting. 
  • Partner with legal, European colleagues, and external parties to ensure timely and accurate HCP transparency reporting. 
  • Partner with Market Access and external parties to review and understand government pricing requirements and reporting. 
  • Provide accounting oversight and support the monthly and quarterly accounting close for expenses and accruals, including compliance with internal control requirements. 
  • Provide both operational and strategic financial support to help facilitate decision-making, including financial modeling, scenario analysis, and decision-ready insights. 
  • Collaborate with functional and department heads, including R&D, clinical, G&A, and commercial teams, to ensure financial information and reporting deliverables are provided in an accurate and timely manner, present key insights or trends that require attention, and enable budget owners to manage their budgets. 
  • Monitor and report ongoing business performance against budgets and forecasts and work with business partners to understand and identify reasons for variances, as well as find offsets to stay within budget targets. 
  • Drive continuous improvement within the finance organization to streamline processes, improve communication and the flow of information to the business, and identify process improvements and automation opportunities. 
  • Prepare materials for EC and BOD presentations. 
  • Build business partnerships with European colleagues and across the organization to improve information sharing, transparency, collaboration, and cross-functional alignment. 
  • Partner with IT and European colleagues to implement and optimize SAP S/4HANA and related reporting tools. 
  • Partner with Business Operations on the effective creation and distribution of launch KPIs and dashboards. 
  • Lead a team of four to five finance professionals and multiple outsourced service providers. 
  • Build the framework for a scalable finance function, including ERP systems, procurement processes, internal control frameworks, treasury programs, routine financial reporting, and finance infrastructure to support company growth. 

Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of 10 to 12 years of broad-based financial and business experience in the life sciences industry, with an excellent track record of achievement. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required; a CPA and/or master’s degree is strongly preferred. 
  • Recent small-company and pharma commercialization experience is required. 
  • Experience in both entrepreneurial and larger-company environments is ideal. 
  • Hands-on, strategically oriented finance leader with the ability to balance big-picture thinking with a willingness to dive into details as needed. 
  • Prior leadership experience overseeing an FP&A function, with a minimum of five years in a management role, ideally with exposure to pharma/biotech, clinical trial accounting, and forecasting. 
  • Strong foundation in accounting, with thorough understanding of financial statements and the interface between external reporting, management reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. 
  • Strong technical finance expertise, including exposure to tax, treasury, technical accounting, internal controls, and international GAAP variances.
  • Prior Big 4 or financial accounting experience is desired but not required. 
  • Strong experience with gross-to-net accruals and forecasting. 
  • Experience with co-pay card program accruals and processes. 
  • Experience with HCP transparency reporting and government pricing calculations. 
  • Experience maintaining multiple charts of accounts is a plus.

  • Able to work from our Concord, MA HQ at least two to three days per week on a hybrid model. This role is not remote eligible, so local candidates only, please. 


Additional Information:
 

The base compensation range for this role is $250,000 - $290,000. Compensation is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
