Role Overview
We are seeking a Commercial Insurance Subject Matter Expert with comprehensive knowledge of the commercial insurance market. This role involves a deep understanding of the market landscape, competitive dynamics, and specific business workflows within commercial insurance. You will closely collaborate with our product, go-to-market (GTM), and sales teams, providing strategic insights, guidance, and expertise to identify the high-impact segments and create strategies to drive successful product launches, market penetration, and sustained growth.

Contract Duration: 4-6 months (potential to extend up to 12 months)

Time Commitment: Up to 20 hours/week (flexible)

Key Responsibilities

Market and Industry Expertise:

  • Provide expert insights into commercial insurance workflows, including policy underwriting, policy administration, claims management, risk management, and portfolio analytics.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of market trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory frameworks (such as Solvency II and IFRS 17), and evolving customer requirements within commercial insurance.
  • Specialize in segments such as Property & Casualty, Commercial Liability, Specialty Lines (Cyber, Professional Indemnity), or Risk Management.

Commercial Insurance Process Mapping:

  • Develop comprehensive mappings of commercial insurance processes aligned with specific roles (e.g., Underwriter, Claims Adjuster, Risk Manager) across the insurance lifecycle stages (policy origination, underwriting, administration, claims processing, and portfolio management).
  • Identify process inefficiencies, propose optimizations, and recommend digital transformation strategies to improve overall operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure alignment of process mappings with product development, go-to-market strategies, and sales enablement initiatives.

Strategic Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with product management teams to define insurance solutions and identify value metrics, ensuring strong alignment with market demands and differentiation against competitors.
  • Collaborate with GTM and sales teams to formulate targeted strategies, positioning, messaging, and pricing frameworks tailored for the commercial insurance market.
  • Support sales activities through domain-specific insights, strategic customer engagement, and effective articulation of value propositions.

Industry Relationships and Thought Leadership:

  • Leverage your professional network to initiate conversations with target customers and industry stakeholders to validate product-market-fit, solution design, and go-to-market positioning.
  • Guide representing the company at industry events, contributing to thought leadership activities and enhancing brand visibility.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of specialized experience and expertise in commercial insurance, including underwriting, policy administration, claims management, portfolio analytics, and regulatory compliance.
  • Previous senior leadership experience such as Head of Commercial Insurance, or other executive-level positions at commercial insurance firms highly preferred.
  • Proven record of successfully developing and implementing strategic initiatives collaboratively with product, marketing, and sales teams.
