Accounting Manager
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Finance, the Accounting Manager oversees all insurance-related aspects of their assigned programs including overseeing the team, receipts, payments, and reporting. The Manager will act as a key partner with the program underwriters and will be responsible for efficiency improvement projects for the Company and will ensure that department goals are accomplished in accordance with company objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee Finance operating activities for assigned programs and general expenses in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and ensures compliance with Jencap’s overall financial governance program, including adherence to Jencap’s accounting and reporting policies.
- Manage Finance operations to ensure the proper control of finance and accounting activities including the following:
- Maintain and analyze the general ledger to ensure they meet GAAP, conform to Jencap policies, and provide operating and financial data to business units.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly close, reporting and compliance for assigned programs and systems.
- Assist with the review of internal financial reporting and balances including key metrics reports, comparative balance sheets and income statements to support business unit leaders.
- Assist with the development and review of the allocated expense budget and annual budget planning.
- Review and approve biweekly check runs, expense reports, wire transfers, online payments, bank reconciliations, 1099 processing, and commissions.
- Responsible reviewing for accuracy and completion assigned program journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
- Assist in the annual financial audit.
- Identify and execute enhancements and best practices to the financial organization, practices, policies, and procedures and ensure their communication.
- Drive consolidation and improved efficiency, and enhance and build upon existing capabilities, in the finance function.
- Develop and manage strong relationships with underwriters, carriers, and vendors.
- Develop, mentor, and supervise assigned programs accountants.
- Other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the VP of Finance or Jencap Program Administrators CFO.
Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in accounting or general finance and management experience required
- Degree in finance or accounting related field required
- Experience in the insurance industry preferred
- Experience with a major enterprise level software (Oracle preferred)
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting specifically related to finance and insurance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A strong mentor and motivator who is approachable and responsible to a variety of people and issues
- Highly organized and able to multi-task
