Job Overview
Jensen Hughes is seeking junior and mid-career engineers to perform nuclear Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) in support of risk-informed regulatory and client needs. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects that enhance nuclear safety and innovation.
While our project team is based in Northern California, we recognize the value of diverse talent and are open to remote work options for qualified candidates.
The position includes the performance of risk assessments and engineering analyses, including probabilistic risk assessments (PRA), and developing technical documentation to support the safe operation of existing and future nuclear power plants. As a consultant, a solid grasp of engineering fundamentals, the ability to learn quickly, an analytical mindset, attention to detail, and excellent oral and written presentation skills are key. The initial focus for this individual will be power plant risk analysis, with the potential to support other areas of our business, which include fire protection engineering, forensics, and security consulting.
Our team partners with nuclear industry clients worldwide, providing specialized technical consulting services that support both day-to-day plant operations and advanced research and development.
Key Areas of Impact:
The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of risk-informed engineering projects, including but not limited to:
- PRA model development, maintenance, and updates
- Fire and seismic PRA, external hazards, and internal flooding risk assessments
- Risk-informed regulatory applications (e.g., RICT, 50.69, ILRT extensions)
- Online risk maintenance tools (PARAGON, PRA model optimization)
- Human Reliability Analysis (HRA) and severe accident analysis
- Regulatory and licensing support
- Innovative solutions leveraging machine learning and software development
Responsibilities:
As a Consulting Engineer, you will join a dynamic and diverse team of nuclear professionals located across the U.S. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting engineering analyses, calculations, and assessments to support nuclear industry clients
- Developing licensing applications and risk-informed engineering solutions.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality consulting services
- Communicating complex technical information effectively to clients and stakeholders
- Opportunities could include client interactions, project management experience, being a task or project technical lead
Qualifications & Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience, preferably Mechanical, Nuclear, or Electrical Engineering
- For mid-career candidates, experience in PRA internal events, fire PRA, external hazards, risk-informed applications, or online risk tools
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and innovation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with operating or advanced nuclear power plant engineering, licensing, or operations
- Integrated nuclear power plant knowledge (e.g., US Navy Nuclear Power)
- Familiarity with nuclear regulatory processes and risk-informed decision-making
- Project management experience is a plus
- Prior experience in a consulting or client-facing role is beneficial

National Pay Range
$86,000 - $129,000 USD
