Overview – Role

The CAD Designer/Drafter will be responsible for performing professional-level CAD services such as drafting of drawings in AutoCAD and amending Revit models, assessing and augmenting drawing sets against basic building code requirements. In this role you will be primarily augmenting various types of schematics and architectural drawings overlaying fire safety related information such as fire resistance rating of walls, floors, doors, exit sign locations, occupancy load calculations, separation of exits and similar, under the guidance and supervision of lead consultants and designers. The ideal candidate would have strong technical skills to produce detailed drawings and layouts for fire protection systems, including fire sprinklers, and special hazard suppression systems. The ideal candidate will have experience using AutoCAD and Revit and an understanding of relevant fire protection codes and standards

This role will be based in Mumbai and will be responsible for supporting projects across India and Overseas and  offers the chance to work in a fast-paced environment and advance your career within a supportive and diverse team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform professional-level CAD engineering services such as augmenting drawing sets in AutoCAD and furnishing Revit models with life safety (and security) design information under the direction of an experienced consultant
  • Prepare detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for fire suppression (firewater pump, firewater network, sprinkler system (wet, dry, pre-action), spray system, foam system, clean agent, kitchen hood system, etc.)
  • Create layout drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built documentation
  • Interpret design specifications and ensure drawings comply with NFPA standards and local codes
  • Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to coordinate system layouts.
  • Modify and update drawings based on redlines, markups, and field conditions
  • Organize and maintain CAD drawing files and documentation
  • Assist in creating material take-offs and equipment schedules based on system drawings
  • Submit progress reports to Project Managers and Project Leaders for a range of projects with which CAD Drafting resources are required
  • Work from rough sketches and specifications created by engineers and technicians and will prepare multiple versions for review by both internal and external project stakeholders
  • Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others
  • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, drawings, or regulations under direction from the lead engineers and consultants for both life safety and security design
  • Participate in internal design reviews and provide input to improve design accuracy and efficiency
  • Ensure deadlines and quality standards are met on all assigned projects

 Requirements and Qualifications 

  • Diploma from a reputable academic organization in an engineering field (or an appropriate design specific degree) with at least 10 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a reputable academic organization or higher in an engineering field (or an appropriate design specific bachelor’s degree) with at least 5 years of experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience using AutoCAD, Revit (specifically fire protection plugins) and BIM platforms
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes, particularly NFPA 13, 14, 20, and 72, as well as national codes and standards such as the National Building Code, Fire Codes, and local standards like TAC, OISD, etc.
  • A good level of understanding of fire protection systems, components, and their working philosophy.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical drawings
  • Be able to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills to write reports, business correspondence, presentations, procedure manuals, and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and other stakeholders when prompted by the internal team
  • Has the ability to work independently and as part of a team, enjoying professional challenges and desire to be an integral part of the long-term growth of Jensen Hughes
  • Being a responsible self-starter with problem solving and reasoning skills, possessing intermediate to high-level personal computer skills, including electronic mail, using software to file communication, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. and able to handle a workload with multiple projects simultaneously
