Job Overview
Jensen Hughes is seeking a seasoned Senior AWS Cloud Architect with deep expertise in data platforms, cloud automation, and security-aware architecture design. This role will be responsible for reviewing and enhancing our current AWS architecture across three key dimensions: cost optimization, security posture, and infrastructure automation. In addition, this individual will lead the ongoing maintenance and modernization of our enterprise Data Lake, including enhancement of the machine learning model embedded within the streaming pipeline.
This is a high-impact, cross-functional role that bridges cloud engineering, data engineering, and machine learning infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Architecture Oversight
- Review and enhance current AWS infrastructure with a focus on cost-efficiency, scalability, and security
- Define and implement cloud architecture standards, best practices, and roadmaps
- Deliver detailed recommendations and architectural diagrams to guide cloud optimization
Security & Governance
- Strengthen IAM policies, VPC configurations, encryption, and monitoring/logging mechanisms
- Align cloud design with compliance requirements such as CIS Benchmarks, NIST, or CMMC if applicable
- Collaborate with InfoSec teams to ensure security by design and ongoing audit readiness
Automation & DevOps Enablement
- Design infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation
- Automate provisioning, scaling, monitoring, and self-healing of environments
- Integrate CI/CD pipelines for data and ML workflows using CodePipeline, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions
Data Lake Ownership & Support
- Maintain, support, and evolve the AWS-based enterprise Data Lake (S3, Glue, Lake Formation, Athena, Redshift Spectrum, etc.)
- Ensure performance, security, and data cataloging of the Lakehouse infrastructure
- Oversee integration with downstream analytics and ML systems
Machine Learning Infrastructure Support
- Collaborate with business users to enhance the ML model embedded in the data lake stream
- Enable robust deployment, versioning, and monitoring of models using SageMaker, Lambda, or Step Functions
- Optimize model inference for performance and cost, and design for scalability
Minimum Requirements:
- Seven (7) or more years of AWS cloud experience, including 3 or more years in architecture roles
- Expertise in AWS services: EC2, S3, IAM, Glue, Lake Formation, Athena, Lambda, Kinesis, SageMaker, CloudWatch
- Proven success optimizing AWS environments for cost, security, and automation
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation)
- Strong understanding of data lake patterns, streaming pipelines, and ML deployment workflows
- Programming proficiency (Python preferred) for automation and model support
Preferred Qualifications:
- AWS Certifications: Solutions Architect – Professional, Machine Learning Specialty, or Security Specialty
- Experience in regulated industries (Gov/Defense, Healthcare, Finance)
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and ML MLOps tools (MLflow, SageMaker Pipelines, etc.)
