We are seeking a dynamic and commercially strong Technical Lead to join our Fire Engineering team in Belgium. This role combines hands-on fire protection engineering expertise with selective commercial and client engagement responsibilities.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted technical authority while supporting growth initiatives, ensuring innovative, compliant, and performance-driven fire safety solutions for our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- To maintain a high level of professional awareness of technical matters in the fire industry, assimilate and synthesise developing technical issues and provide updates and briefings as required.
- Guiding our fire engineering professionals, along with advising and delivering complex solutions to large construction engineering projects within leading consultancies.
- Taking control of current and future projects and ensuring that financial targets of the team are met and exceeded, develop existing relationships with key clients and deliver fire safety engineering solutions
- Drive behind the delivery of technical excellence, team engagement, and the go-to in developing their key clients in this discipline.
- Be the expert to our clients and that all important first point of call.
- Lead discussion with design team, building control and fire service.
- Attend industry conferences to network and embrace industry trends and best practices
- Supervise and train graduate engineers.
- Provide engineering support to building management offices regarding fire protection system inspection, testing, and maintenance.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through technical credibility and consistent delivery.
- Proactively identify and pursue new project and business opportunities within the building safety sector, taking initiative rather than waiting for work to come your way.
- Drive opportunities through strong client engagement and technical leadership, focusing on creating new assignments without relying on heavy traditional business development activity.
- Collaborate with internal teams to translate client needs into compliant and commercially viable engineering solutions.
- Prepare and present technical proposals and contribute to commercial submissions where required.
- Ensure client satisfaction through proactive communication, timely delivery of services, and effective coordination with project stakeholders.
- Contribute to service positioning and market visibility through thought leadership and high-quality technical output.
- Mentor and support colleagues across projects where appropriate.
- Meet client expectations by completing assigned tasks within agreed timelines and communicating effectively with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound reports and technical correspondence as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
To set you up for success in this role from day one, the following qualifications and experience are required:
- A background in fire engineering, preferably within a consultancy environment.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Fire Engineering or a related discipline such as Mechanical Engineering.
- A minimum of 8+ years’ experience in fire protection engineering, including design review, inspections, and commissioning.
- For full-time commercial/technical scope: experience performing technical consulting or engineering tasks independently or as part of a project team in the fire safety sector.
- Strong understanding of fire and life safety codes and standards.
- The ability to undertake technical work independently.
- The ability and desire to mentor and manage junior professionals.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Fluency in Dutch and English is essential; knowledge of French is a strong advantage.
- Willingness to travel within Belgium to client sites and between offices.
