Director, Business Development

McKinney is hiring a Director, Business Development to help drive growth for McKinney Health. This person will partner with the Managing Director McKinney Health and the Executive Director, Head of Growth, on the development and execution of the McKinney Health marketing plan to generate industry awareness and new business opportunities for the health and wellness practice. They will lead all business development and pitch efforts for McKinney Health, from prospecting new clients to converting on new business opportunities - including crafting RFIs and RFPs, driving the pitch process, and guiding the pitch team to a successful final meeting. This role will bring focus, consistency, and impact to all marketing and business development activities for McKinney Health. 

Ideal Candidate:

We are seeking an experienced business development professional with an understanding of the health marketing landscape–both Pharma and more general wellness brands. The ideal candidate understands the agency buyer's journey and can connect McKinney Health to prospects at the right time and place through innovative, strategic outbound marketing efforts. They will also be charismatic and able to build strong relationships internally with agency stakeholders and externally with prospective clients to cultivate qualified new business opportunities. This person has demonstrated success in shepherding new business opportunities from the RFI stage to conversion, coaching pitch teams on content and presentation, and curating a winning client experience throughout the pitch.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for stakeholder alignment on which new business opportunities to pursue, i.e., Go-No-Go decisions and the research and discussions that inform those decisions
  • Manage RFI and RFP submissions - from strategy to content and submission
  • Pitch strategy and support - developing a strategic approach for each pitch, supporting content development, and creating consistency throughout the process
  • Orchestrate a winning pitch experience for the client - from developing personas to inform interactions with the client to pitch theater for in-person meetings
  • Development and execution of annual and short-term marketing and prospecting strategies, plans, and content calendars
  • Generate marketing initiatives and content, including newsletters and webinars, that drive brand awareness and purchase intent, as well as talent retention and recruitment, across all channels, including:
    • Owned (website and social media) 
    • SEM
    • PR 
    • Paid Media
    • Email marketing
    • Events (e.g., CMO dinners, on-stage events) 
    • Partnerships and Sponsorships
  • Support external PR efforts led by the Marketing team and external PR agency to maximize news, thought leadership and awards opportunities.
  • Develop and execute a prospecting strategy that includes networking, 1:1 outreach, and relationship development with both warm and cold prospects, transitioning qualified leads to SMEs
  • Deliver category, brand, and KDM background and personality research used to inform prospecting strategy and outreach efforts.
  • Partner with Marketing to ensure CRM system remains up to date and that relevant data is continually captured and analyzed
  • Responsible for managing McKinney Health marketing assets, including creating and maintaining updated sizzle reels, case studies, and other health-specific marketing materials
  • Liaise with advertising search consultants to support both active pitches and the pipeline of future opportunities
  • Provide weekly reporting on new business updates, metrics on active marketing initiatives, etc.

Experience and Professional Skills

  • At least 7-10 years of work experience, ideally in new business and account management at a creative agency
  • Experience and familiarity with the Pharma landscape & prospecting
  • Possess not only the technical skills required for the role but also the emotional intelligence necessary to connect with internal teams and prospects on a meaningful level 
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and persuade various stakeholders 
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to engage with strong personalities up to the C-Suite
  • Ability to solve complex problems as a creative thinker and with a strategic mindset
  • Deep understanding of the advertising industry, including current trends and challenges
  • Understands the power of storytelling and how to connect those stories with what matters most with the key decision-makers

Salary Range

Our estimated range for this role is $150k - $175k

Compensation packages are based on the skill level and experience each candidate brings to their role. There may also be a more senior or junior position available that could be a better fit with your expertise. Each level has its own compensation range.
