Business Development Director, Culture & Attractions
About the Position:
As Journey experiences growth and success, we are seeking a dynamic Business Development Director to harness Journey’s wide-ranging expertise and services and supercharge our growth, specifically across museums, attractions, expos, theme parks, and location-based experiences in North America.
We are looking for someone with keen knowledge of this industry, a sharp nose for hunting down leads and making new introductions, a confident ability to present Journey in front of new clients, and a hunger for closing new business. You are strategic, well-spoken, love the arts, and business-minded. In other words, you are a unicorn!
Main Responsibilities:
- Forming a core part of the global business development team, collaborating with this team on strategic planning, intel sharing, and deal status
- Owning accountability for annual bookings targets in your sector, as established by the business’s goals for the year
- Securing meetings with new clients, hunting down project opportunities, and showing up to these meetings as an expert representative of experience design in Entertainment. For these meetings, you will be able to craft custom presentations as required
- Growing business development and growth in North America, as well as continued expansion among existing clients
- Qualifying new leads with a mind towards whether the project is a business fit for Journey
- Owning these leads through the “BD funnel,” through steps such as writing proposals, navigating pricing, and closing deals
- Understanding the nuances of the commissioning process in the Culture and Attractions sector and working closely with company directors to close business (contracts, pricing, etc.)
- Awareness of current challenges and opportunities in the entertainment sector, acting as a leader in this space internally and externally
- Attending conferences related to Entertainment, representing Journey, and reporting on activity post-event related to new leads, contacts, and developments in the market
- Using your “voice” to champion Journey, for example, through thought leadership, via LinkedIn
- To establish, maintain, and grow a database of qualified leads through referrals, face-to-face meetings, email, and networking.
- Using Journey’s BD tools to track leads and information (Salesforce and email integrations)
- Nurturing key relationships and key accounts, especially with repeat clients, and looking for opportunities for growth through our existing network and active projects in production
- Ultimately, you will contribute to overall business strategy and direction as a specialist in this area
Outcomes:
This is a quantitative role with clear outcomes related to the number of new leads, number of new opportunities, and bookings targets by revenue. However, it is as much art as science, and you are as dynamic as you are numbers-focused.
- Growth of Journey’s market share and enhanced positioning in the Entertainment sector
- Monthly new qualified opportunities based on targets
- Annual bookings based on targets
- Year-on-year growth
About You:
You have been in a similar business development or director-level role in a related design industry in North America. You can hit the ground running with your extensive market knowledge and established network of contacts.
Character Traits:
- Calm under pressure
- Charismatic and genuine
- Strategic, loves to hunt for the deal
- A natural problem solver
- Collaborative, a true team player who builds trust with colleagues and clients
- Confident, able to command attention and present to audiences large and small
- An equal love of numbers and narrative
