About the Role

Role Overview

We are looking to work with a new Senior Architectural Interior Designer at Journey. You'll work closely with our design teams, clients, and project consultants to develop and deliver compelling projects across multiple sectors. You'll bring creative leadership to the team, fostering a collaborative process where ideas are shared, challenged, and pushed further. 

Drawing on your hospitality design experience and technical expertise, you'll help move projects seamlessly from concept through completion while balancing big-picture thinking with the details that bring a design to life. You'll be expected to bring a strong point of view, thoughtful design sensibility, and the rigor needed to uphold Journey's high design standards.

Key Responsibilities:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following

  • Lead and collaborate with your project team to create and develop projects through all design phases with minimal supervision from more senior members of the design team.  
  • Be able to conceptualize ideas for projects and communicate them clearly and strategically with clients through compelling narrative presentations as well as 3D models and sketches, while continuously contributing fresh ideas to the team.  
  • Lead the coordination and production of technical BIM documentation including models and interior design drawing sets, while providing technical guidance and innovative solutions to resolve complex design challenges. 
  • Select and specify architectural finishes as well as design, detail and specify custom FF&E. 
  • Review design documents including drawings, FF&E specifications and material schedules to ensure they incorporate design intent and technical accuracy. 
  • Coordinate and communicate design intent between the design team, client, project consulting team and vendors.  
  • Address RFI responses, perform shop drawing and submittal reviews and participate of punch list reviews during design coordination/CA phases led by the project AOR. 
  • Coordinate with the Design Managers to ensure the design meets our scope of services as well as project budget and schedule. 
  • Support the Design Manager in the supervision and mentorship of more junior interior designers. 
  • Support the Desing Manager with resource management and project schedules efforts.   
  • Be an active participant and a positive influence on the creative culture of the studio.

Candidate Qualifications & Skills

Required: 

  • Formal training eg. B.Arch. or bachelor’s degree in interior design from an accredited school 
  • 7+ years of post-graduate design experience within an architecture or interior design studio 
  • Specific experience in hospitality architectural and/or interior design 
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to express ideas thoroughly 
  • Experience handing several projects with changing requirements, client requests and tight deadlines 
  • Excellent communication skills and including experience presenting to clients and /or the client’s team   
  • Proficiency with design presentation software like Adobe Creative Suite, Power Point and Google Slides   
  • Experience in creating and managing BIM models and drawings in Revit 
  • An ability to model in Revit  
  • Proficiency in developing space planning and test fits strategies  

Desirable: 

  • An NCIDQ certification or AIA licensure 
  • Experience with AutoCAD, 3D Max, Rhino, and/or Sketchup 

Contract Type: Full time, permanent contract

Location: Our Miami studio

We value regular in-person collaboration because we think it leads to the best creative work however hybrid working is available around project commitments.

Interviews: Introductory calls and interviews are anticipated from w/c 12th October. We aim to run two rounds of interview for this role with various members of our project teams, time to visit the studio and opportunity to meet more people in person.

We follow pay transparency, meaning we publish a salary range for each role. The salary range is the full earning potential during someone’s time in a role. Salary offers are made within this range and based on your experience and parity with the strength of our existing team/s.

Salary Pay Range

$90,000 - $115,000 USD
