About JPA Health
JPA Health is a fully integrated marketing, communications and medical communications agency for clients ranging from emerging biotech to established pharmaceutical companies and public health organizations. The Role
JPA Health is seeking an Earned Media Director who can bring leadership and simplicity to our Earned Media approach, and for our healthcare clients, spanning Life Sciences, Health Tech, Public Health, Federal Government, and Investor Relations. This person will also ensure that our Earned Media approach seamlessly integrates into the larger Omnichannel Engagement offering at JPA.
The ideal candidate can bridge traditional PR with modern digital earned strategies—leveraging media relations, thought leadership, organic buzz, and influencer amplification to create impactful, scalable engagement.
This role is ideal for someone who loves to roll up their sleeves but also has the strategic vision to lead. You’ll oversee one in-house Earned Media strategist and work with a network of freelancers to pull in as needed, streamlining efforts and ensuring that Earned Media is an integrated, core part of our client strategies.
This position is a full-time, hybrid role reporting to any JPA office (i.e., Boston, Washington, DC, New York City) 2 days per week and working remotely 3 days per week.
The Responsibilities
- Lead and execute Earned Media strategies that integrate seamlessly with Paid, Social, and Content.
- Own media relations efforts, securing impactful coverage across healthcare, life sciences, and health tech.
- Work independently and collaboratively, building integrated earned strategies that support and enhance paid and owned efforts.
- Champion the role of Earned Media within Omnichannel Engagement, making its impact clear and actionable across teams.
- Manage and optimize a hybrid team, including one in-house employee and a network of specialized freelancers.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on media opportunities, such as (but not limited to) FDA approvals, public health initiatives, and corporate announcements.
- Support crisis communications as needed, ensuring a steady hand when it matters most.
- Simplify how we talk about and frame Earned Media: clear, compelling, and effective.
About You
Our ideal candidate must have:
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of Earned Media experience, spanning traditional PR and digital earned strategies.
- Experience within the healthcare agencies, preferably with BioTech & Investor Relations familiarity.
- Expand beyond traditional PR, driving digital Earned Media efforts such as UGC, influencer collaborations, and organic amplification, would be a great add.
- Deep media relations expertise—you know how to land coverage that moves the needle.
- Strong strategic mindset, but also comfortable executing and getting things done.
- Skilled at working both independently and collaboratively, integrating Earned Media into broader omnichannel campaigns.
- Excellent communicator and storyteller, able to make the role of Earned Media clear and actionable.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to manage an in-house team member and direct freelancers as needed.
- A builder. You thrive on optimizing, simplifying, and energizing internal & external stakeholders about the impact of Earned Media.
