Job Summary
The Project Controls Manager plays a key hybrid role, supporting both field operations and project oversight. This individual works closely with Superintendents on-site while partnering with Project Managers and leadership to manage cost tracking, scheduling, and process consistency.
Responsible for oversight from project setup through closeout, the Project Controls Manager ensures accuracy, accountability, and efficiency across the lifecycle. This role drives visibility, improves workflows, and helps reduce risk by aligning field execution with strategic project controls.
Responsibilities
Project Controls and Financial Oversight
- Develop and distribute initial GC projections and oversee ongoing updates to support accurate forecasting.
- Manage the full workflow for change orders (COs), work orders (WOs), and purchase orders (POs), ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Monitor cost control activities and ensure alignment with project budgets and internal financial standards.
- Monitor submittal logs to ensure timely submission, review, and approval. Provide oversight to internal teams to prevent bottlenecks or delays in procurement and installation.
Field Operations Support
- Lead superintendent documentation reviews and provide training to reinforce compliance with operational standards.
- Support schedule monitoring in coordination with field teams and flag potential risks or delays.
- Review and approve new project entries within JRM systems to ensure complete and accurate setup.
Project Lifecycle and Risk Management
- Facilitate weekly and biweekly meetings with Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers to identify challenges and drive timely resolution.
- Review and update project schedules regularly in coordination with Superintendents and Project Managers. Identify potential delays early and recommend solutions to maintain project timelines.
- Actively participate in field and operations meetings to elevate project concerns and ensure collaboration.
- Oversee the closeout process to ensure all required documentation, turnover items, and financial close procedures are completed accurately and on schedule.
Team Leadership and Oversight
- Provide direct supervision and professional development for the Project Controls team.
- Set expectations, provide feedback, and support ongoing growth and accountability.
Administrative and Reporting Functions
- Prepare and distribute Operations meeting agendas and minutes to document discussions and drive follow-up.
- Support the Field Operations Director in aligning project controls standards and procedures across the organization.
- Coordinate with NY HQ Field Operations and Project Controls teams to ensure alignment with JRM policies, procedures, and project controls guidelines.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred
- 10+ years of experience in the commercial construction industry, including exposure to both field operations and project controls
- Proven experience managing or collaborating with field teams, superintendents, and project managers
- Solid understanding of construction documents, cost tracking, project scheduling, and contract workflow
- Proficiency in Procore and Timberline, with working knowledge of scheduling and financial control systems
Computer Systems
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Procore, & Timberline
