Job Summary

The Business Development Manager, Retail supports JRM's retail growth strategy by researching prospective clients, assisting with outreach and relationship-building, and helping maintain a healthy pipeline of retail opportunities. This is an entry-level role suited to a motivated early-career professional who wants to build a career in construction business development. The role works under the guidance of senior business development leadership and partners closely with operations, preconstruction, and marketing to support JRM's retail portfolio growth.

The ideal candidate is curious, organized, eager to learn the retail construction and commercial real estate landscape, and comfortable engaging with clients, brokers, and industry contacts under the direction of senior team members.

Role & Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Support

  • Support retail-focused business development initiatives under the direction of senior BD leadership
  • Research and help identify potential retail clients, developers, brokers, architects, and consultants
  • Assist in building and maintaining a pipeline of prospective retail opportunities
  • Support outreach efforts, including scheduling, follow-up communications, and meeting preparation
  • Help prepare materials for interviews, presentations, proposals, and client events
  • Assist with account research and background preparation for priority clients and target sectors

Market Awareness

  • Track market trends, competitive activity, and emerging retail developments
  • Monitor industry news, tenant expansion activity, and retail market conditions
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and networking functions alongside senior team members
  • Help compile market intelligence to support the broader business development team

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with operations and preconstruction teams to support business development efforts
  • Partner with marketing on retail-focused collateral, presentations, and award submissions
  • Provide administrative and research support for strategic growth planning

Reporting & Performance

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date pipeline records in CRM systems
  • Provide regular activity updates to senior business development leadership
  • Track outreach efforts and follow-up outcomes to support team reporting

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in business development, sales, client relations, real estate, or a related field; internship experience considered
  • Bachelor's degree in business, real estate, construction management, marketing, or a related field preferred
  • Interest in retail construction, tenant fit-outs, and commercial development strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with good time management and follow-through
  • Comfortable working collaboratively across departments and with senior leadership
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CRM systems a plus
  • Self-starter with a strong desire to learn and grow within the business development function

Salary Information
To the extent this position is performed in New York City, the annual salary range for this role is $100,000-$120,000.
