In short, your role within Jungheinrich will play a crucial part in providing the customer with complete peace of mind in managing their intra-company logistics. 

 

Role Purpose

You’ll join the Logistics & Customs team and be a key subject matter expert for customs compliance for the UK Sales unit, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to create efficient, compliant, and customer-driven solutions.

Working on the import and export of material handling equipment, parts, accessories and racking. This role will act as the support conduit between the Logistics & Customs Dept and Finance Dept to ensure Customs Reporting obligations are met in full to HMRC.

The role will be responsible for managing, preparing and submitting all customs-related documentation, liaising with freight forwarders and customs authorities, and ensuring adherence to relevant customs regulations and company procedures.

A large proportion of the activity is Road Freight, often time sensitive with last minute requests. This means we are looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic fast moving environment – ideally with road freight experience.

 

Role Responsibilities                                               

  • Customs Compliance – Ensure all import/export activities for MHE and related parts comply with UK customs laws, HMRC requirements, and relevant trade agreements.
  • Documentation Management (1) – Prepare & Submit Import & Export Customs Declaration via HMRC CDS software system. Manage Transit Documents (T1’s) ensuring that any document is closed down in process
  • Documentation Management (2) – Audit customs declarations, shipping documentation, commercial invoices, and any supporting certificates (e.g., origin, conformity, preference).
  • Tariff Classification – Identify and apply correct HS codes and duty rates for all UK business imports.
  • Duty & VAT Processing – Calculate and record applicable duties, taxes, and customs charges for each shipment.
  • Liaison & Coordination – Work closely with freight forwarders, logistics providers, suppliers, and internal departments ensuring that accurate clearance instructions are issued to ensure a smooth customs clearance.
  • Record-Keeping – Maintain accurate, auditable records of all customs transactions in line with company policy and statutory requirements. Reconciliation against monthly MSS data.
  • Problem Resolution – Investigate and resolve customs queries and discrepancies quickly and effectively to ensure minimal order delays.
  • Continuous Improvement – Remain up to date with changes in UK customs legislation (and EU where applicable) and continually review and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder may be required to perform other duties assigned by the Head of Logistics & Customs

 

Role Requirements 

Skills 

  • IT literate, strong Microsoft Excel skills 
  • An understanding of Customs & Freight Management Processes 
  • Experience of Customs Clearance procedures using CDS system for Import and Export activity
  • Management of Report preparation for analytical & audit purposes
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written and the ability to communicate with colleagues on different levels in the organisation 
  • Self-starting with personal drive and motivation to proactively identify issues and deliver solutions to problems  

Experience 

  • Experience in Finance, Customs or Freight Forwarding related role 

Travel / Mobility 

  • This is a hybrid role with mixed attendance at the Milton Keynes office & working from home with very occasional travel to Warrington for team meetings. This role will require regular interaction on Teams platform. 

Desirable 

  • Previous experience in a Customs documentation process role
  • Familiarization of Customs Declaration Management Software
  • Familiarization of SAP would be an advantage
