
Reliability Engineer

Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Reliability Engineer to execute hazard evaluations supporting the design, build and operation of near-term nuclear and non-nuclear hardware demonstration projects. The Reliability Engineer will work in close consultation with mechanical, electrical, I&C, testing, manufacturing, operations, and licensing engineering staff to collect operating experience from the Kairos development program, implement reliability strategies, and to conduct hazard evaluations such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis. In this role, you will contribute to the technology development programs for the demonstration and commercialization of Kairos Power reactors.
Responsibilities
- Develops strategies for achieving plant system and component reliability, using failure modes and effects analysis, what-if analysis, fault tree analysis, and other methods as appropriate.
- Track implementation of reliability strategies for Kairos projects, including non-nuclear demonstrations, nuclear demonstrations, salt production, and fuel manufacturing
- Assists Kairos hardware technology development by capturing and disseminating operating experience
- Supports continuous improvement efforts that improve automation of analysis and documentation work products
- Other duties as assigned, which may include hands-on assignments with hardware fabrication, assembly, commissioning and operation.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Nuclear Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science and Engineering or other relevant technical degree.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative hazard evaluation (e.g. HAZOPs, failure modes and effects analysis, what-if analysis, fault tree analysis)
- Preferred experience with data analysis/automation and ability to develop further experience in R, Bash/Shell/Batch scripting, Docker, GitHub, etc.
- Preferred hands-on experience with hardware design, fabrication, assembly, or testing
- Proven team player with excellent verbal and written communication/presentation
Physical Conditions
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
- Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 25 pounds in all directions
- Communicating with others to exchange information
- Use hand tools
Environmental Conditions
- General office environment
- Industrial, manufacturing and construction environment in alignment with projects and assignments
Safety and PPE
- Reading and interpreting hazardous warning signs
- Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials
- Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
- Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
Travel
- Some travel may be required (25%)
