Finance Manager

Locations: San Francisco

At Kargo, our mission is to build a connective tissue between the physical world of freight and the digital ecosystem used to manage it. We believe that advancements in smart infrastructure are critical to enabling a safer and more efficient future for logistics.  Our loading dock sensor platform verifies all incoming and outgoing freight, aggregating data that enables shippers and carriers to efficiently manage dock operations, switch out suppliers and understand material flow in real time.

We care deeply about delivering the best solutions for our customers. As a member of the Kargo team, you will have the opportunity to develop and deploy tomorrow’s hardware & software solutions and help revolutionize logistics.

Responsibilities

Accounting and close (ownership, with the outsourced controller team)

  • Own the monthly close calendar and drive it to a fixed cadence; review the India controller team’s work rather than doing it
  • Review reconciliations, accruals, prepaid and fixed-asset schedules, revenue recognition for hardware-enabled subscriptions, and inventory accounting (finished goods vs. spare parts, consignment, WIP)
  • Prepare the monthly financial package and variance commentary
  • Own the audit and tax-provider relationships day to day: PBC lists, support schedules, follow-ups

Billing and accounts receivable

  • Own the customer master, deployment-triggered invoicing, sales tax application, collections, and AR reconciliation
  • Own the billing process documentation and the sales-to-finance handoff controls

Payroll, benefits, and equity administration

  • Payroll through the PEO (Rippling), including processing of approved commissions, bonuses, and salary changes
  • Benefits and 401(k) administration (enrollment logistics, employee questions, census and notices); workers’ comp and EPLI administration - strategy, negotiations, plan design, and fiduciary decisions remain with the CFO
  • Routine Carta administration: grants, exercises, cap-table hygiene, 409A uploads and FMV updates

Treasury, AP, and compliance operations

  • AP and vendor management; weekly cash position and 13-week cash forecast; bank administration support
  • Sales tax, state registrations, and the finance compliance calendar; filings support for annual reports and tax
  • Vendor and customer insurance certificate requests

FP&A and reporting support

  • Maintain the actuals side of the financial model; support budget-vs-actual reporting by department
  • Build and maintain recurring board and investor reporting schedules (ARR, retention, unit economics, asset base) from system data

Systems

  • Day-to-day owner of the ERP implementation (data migration, testing, documentation) and, post go-live, the ERP system administrator
  • Owner of the fixed-asset register and its reconciliation to deployment data

Experience

  • 6–10 years of finance and accounting experience, including a controller, assistant controller, or finance manager role at a venture-backed B2B SaaS or hardware-enabled SaaS company; CPA or equivalent strongly preferred
  • Hands-on ownership of a monthly close and an external audit; comfort reviewing an outsourced accounting team’s work
  • Working knowledge of subscription revenue recognition (ASC 606) and inventory/fixed-asset accounting - hardware exposure is a real advantage
  • Payroll and benefits administration experience, ideally in a PEO environment; Carta familiarity a plus
  • QuickBooks plus at least one mid-market ERP (Rillet, Campfire, Sage Intacct, or NetSuite); strong Excel/Sheets
  • Builds processes and documents them; comfortable being the only full-time finance person besides the CFO
  • High attention to detail, discretion with compensation and cap-table data, low ego about operational work
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field

Pay Range

$130,000 - $160,000 USD
