Role Summary

The Senior Project Manager is a strategic leader within the Program Management Office (PMO), accountable for driving the successful delivery of complex, high‑visibility IT and business transformation initiatives that directly support enterprise strategy, operational excellence, and technology modernization.

This role operates beyond individual project execution, providing program‑level oversight, influencing senior stakeholders, managing interdependencies across multiple initiatives, and ensuring delivery of measurable business value. The Senior Project Manager serves as a trusted advisor to business and technology leaders, translating strategic objectives into executable roadmaps while ensuring disciplined governance, financial stewardship, and change adoption.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Program & Portfolio Leadership

  • Lead multiple concurrent, complex IT and business initiatives, often spanning teams, functions, and external partners.
  • Translate enterprise and departmental strategies into integrated project and program roadmaps with clear outcomes, milestones, and success metrics.
  • Manage cross‑project dependencies, risks, and resource constraints, ensuring alignment to strategic priorities and funding plans.
  • Partner with executive sponsors to define scope, investment rationale, value realization, and success measures.

Advanced Project Execution & Governance

  • Own end‑to‑end delivery across the full project lifecycle: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure, in alignment with PMI / PMBOK practices.
  • Establish and maintain governance structures, including steering committees, executive reporting, and decision forums.
  • Ensure projects meet scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk objectives, proactively addressing issues before they impact outcomes.
  • Drive disciplined change control, financial forecasting, and performance tracking using standardized PMO tools and dashboards.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Develop and manage multi‑million‑dollar project and program budgets, including forecasting, variance analysis, and benefits tracking.
  • Apply advanced risk management practices to identify, assess, and mitigate strategic, operational, technical, and compliance risks.
  • Ensure alignment with internal controls, data security standards, and regulatory requirements common to healthcare technology environments.

Stakeholder Leadership & Communication

  • Act as a primary interface with senior business and technology leaders, providing clear, concise, and actionable status reporting.
  • Influence without authority by building strong relationships, aligning diverse perspectives, and facilitating timely decision‑making.
  • Represent the PMO and project initiatives in executive reviews, business planning discussions, and cross‑functional forums.

Change Management & Technology Adoption

  • Lead integrated change management strategies, including stakeholder impact assessments, communications, training coordination, and adoption metrics.
  • Ensure solutions are not only delivered but successfully adopted, embedded into operations, and producing intended business outcomes.
  • Partner with functional leaders to prepare teams for new systems, workflows, and operating models.

PMO Leadership & Capability Development

  • Champion PMO standards, methodologies, and best practices, continuously improving delivery maturity and operational efficiency.
  • Mentor and coach project managers and coordinators, raising overall capability and consistency across the portfolio.  May have direct player/coach reporting relationship.
  • Contribute to the evolution of enterprise project governance, reporting frameworks, and delivery playbooks.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and tooling improvements across the PMO.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, operations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7–10+ years of progressive project management experience, including leadership of complex IT or business transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects or programs with high visibility and material business impact.
  • Advanced expertise in project governance, financial management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder leadership.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and influencing skills at executive and team levels.
  • Must be comfortable maintaining discretion and confidentiality around sensitive information.

Preferred

  • PMP, PgMP, CAPM, or equivalent PMI certification.
  • Experience leading technology implementations, data‑driven platforms, or enterprise systems.
  • Formal change management training or certification (Prosci or similar).
  • Proficiency with enterprise project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira, MS Project, Asana).
