Survey Technician

We are looking to hire a Survey Technician for our growing Civil Texas group in Fort Worth.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a field survey crew in conducting topographic, boundary, ALTA/NSPS, construction staking, and other types of land surveys.
  • Set up and operate GPS equipment, total stations, levels, and other surveying instruments.
  • Ensure accurate data collection, including measurements, angles, and elevations.
  • Conduct detailed field notes, sketches, and records to document survey data and site conditions.
  • Coordinate daily tasks and schedules for the survey crew to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, engineers, and other stakeholders regarding project requirements and progress.
  • Interpret survey data and provide recommendations for project design and construction.
  • Ensure accuracy and precision of survey work, including verification of data and cross-checking of measurements.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues encountered in the field.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and safety standards.
  • Ensure proper care, maintenance, and calibration of surveying equipment and tools.
  • Report any equipment issues or needs for replacement to the appropriate department.
  • Prepare and submit detailed survey reports, including sketches, maps, and digital data files.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of survey activities and findings.
  • Provide input into the preparation of project plans, estimates, and schedules.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field is often preferred.
  • Typically 3-5 years of experience in land surveying, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Electrical and civil plan reading experience, a plus.
  • AutoCAD and Microsoft office experience, a plus.
  • Trimble equipment experience, required.
  • Experience with a variety of survey types, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, and ALTA/NSPS surveys.
  • Proficiency in using surveying equipment such as GPS units, total stations, levels, and data collectors.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage a team and coordinate with other stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving abilities to address challenges that arise in the field.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision in data collection and reporting.
