Now Hiring: Experienced Pipe Utility Helper
📍Location: Austin
Keeley Construction is actively seeking a skilled and dependable Pipe Utility Helper with 2–3 years of hands-on experience supporting underground utility work. This is not an entry-level position. Ideal candidates will have a solid foundation in utility installation and be ready to contribute immediately to high-performance field crews working on critical infrastructure projects. Candidates must have experience with both underground and above-ground piping, including mechanical joint installations for underground systems and flanged joints for above-ground applications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Pipe Installation Support: Assist in the layout, handling, and installation of water, sewer, and storm drainage piping systems under the direction of experienced pipe layers or foremen.
  • Trenching & Shoring: Work safely in and around excavation zones, following proper trench safety procedures and setting up trench boxes and shoring as required.
  • Tool Operation: Operate hand tools and support the use of compactors, pipe lasers, saws, and trench safety equipment.
  • System Assembly: Help with the assembly of pipe systems, fittings, valves, and related components, ensuring alignment and proper jointing.
  • Site Readiness & Cleanup: Maintain a clean and organized job site, including material staging and debris removal.
  • Team Collaboration: Work as part of a crew, communicating clearly with operators, foremen, and other trades to support efficient workflow.
  • Safety Practices: Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements, including awareness of underground hazards, confined space entry, and heavy equipment proximity.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in underground utility work (water, sewer, storm preferred).
  • Experience with both underground (mechanical joint) and above-ground (flanged) piping systems.
  • Familiarity with underground utility construction tools, equipment, and best practices.
  • Ability to read and follow grade stakes, pipe elevations, and basic drawings is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of trench and excavation safety.
  • Physically fit and able to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and perform strenuous labor.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high safety and quality standards.
  • Must pass a pre-employment assessment and drug screen.
