We are currently looking for an IT Field Technician to join our team
What you can expect in this role:
Reporting to the Team Lead - System Administrator, the Network Field Technician will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and functionality of our organization’s IT mining sites infrastructure. This position involves resolving technical issues, assisting on-site users, managing the lifecycle of on-site IT assets, and maintaining an optimal site environment. The position may require on-call support on a weekly rotation basis.
More specifically, here are some of the key responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities (Level 1)
- Physical work
- Installing and removing network devices.
- Install, patching, labelling, and organizing network cables.
- Maintenance & Upkeep
- Updating inventory databases & asset management systems.
- Cleaning IT equipment and surrounding areas.
- Following and applying the policy in the safe disposal or recycling of old or decommissioned hardware.
- Performing routine checks of the datacenter floor to ensure no audible alarms, visible warning lights, or other signs of equipment distress.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitoring environment control systems, like HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), to ensure servers and devices remain at optimal temperatures.
- Monitoring and reporting health and safety hazards.
- Monitoring power distribution units (PDUs) and ensuring devices are evenly and properly powered.
- Troubleshooting & Configuration
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware issues.
- Escalating complex issues to the team and tracking all issues to resolution.
- Identifying and reporting visible damaged equipment or systems not operating as expected to IT Field Technician Level 2 and Lead.
Key Responsibilities (Level 2)
Assuming responsibilities of level 1 IT Field Technicians when necessary
- Physical Work
- Physically installing and removing server hardware and storage devices within the datacenter racks.
- Maintenance & Upkeep
- If necessary, Replacing failed components, such as server equipment, hard drives, power supplies, modules, etc.
- Troubleshooting & Configuration
- Configuration of various equipment and operating systems.
- Security
- Ensuring that all systems have the latest security patches and software updates.
- Overseeing regular data backups and ensuring backup integrity.
- Ensuring that data storage devices are properly wiped or destroyed to protect sensitive information.
- Ensuring that only authorized personnel gain access to the datacenter.
- Infrastructure
- Design, plan, and implement new systems and network infrastructures.
- Documentation
- Maintaining logs of all activities, such as hardware changes, issues, or environmental readings.
- Create and update documentation for procedures, layouts, and other operational details.
Here's the profile we're looking for:
- 1-2 years' experience in a similar position.
- Obtain ASP training within 90 days of hire.
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma.
- Technical courses and certifications.
- Team spirit, a keen sense of ownership, and an agile mindset.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Mastery of the work safety standards of his environment.
- Proactive with an inquisitive and problem-solving mind.
A few more relevant details:
- Travel required between our Datacenter in Sherbrooke.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 am to 4 pm.
- Onsite.
