About the Role
As the Director of Engineering Operations, you will function as the CTO’s technical right hand, driving clarity, execution, architectural alignment, and engineering velocity across Keeper. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a delivery or program management function. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, product, security, infrastructure, and executive stakeholders to advance key initiatives, build proofs of concept, resolve complex technical challenges, and ensure continuity between the CTO’s strategic vision and day-to-day engineering execution. This role is not primarily a people-management position, though you may lead a small, high-impact team (up to ~10 engineers) as strategic initiatives expand.
Responsibilities
- Operate as a senior hands-on technologist within the Office of the CTO, accelerating high-impact engineering initiatives
- Design, architect, and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance systems across backend services, cloud infrastructure, and integration layers
- Translate the CTO’s technical vision into actionable architectures, prototypes, and execution plans
- Lead architectural reviews and ensure alignment across engineering teams on scalability, security, and reliability
- Identify and resolve complex technical bottlenecks in performance, observability, resiliency, and security
- Drive strategic R&D initiatives including platform modernization, automation, DevSecOps, and secure SDLC improvements
- Represent engineering in executive forums, leadership syncs, and occasional board-level technical discussions
- Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and vendors to improve platform scalability, developer velocity, and security posture
- Collaborate with engineering leaders on long-term technical strategy, roadmaps, and cross-functional initiatives
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leads to elevate engineering excellence across the organization
- Participate in incident reviews, architecture assessments, system audits, and critical hiring efforts
- Potentially lead a small team of engineers as the Office of the CTO grows
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building secure, scalable, distributed systems
- Deep hands-on coding expertise across multiple backend and platform languages such as Java, Python, Go, C#, or similar
- Strong system architecture experience including API design, cloud infrastructure, and security-focused engineering
- Proven technical leadership in complex, high-scale, or security-sensitive environments
- Extensive experience with AWS and modern CI/CD practices
- Familiarity with privileged access management, secrets management, or cybersecurity platforms is strongly preferred
- Excellent communication, cross-functional collaboration, and executive-level influence skills
- Ability to operate autonomously, drive clarity, and execute effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes environments
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Benefits
- Medical, Dental & Vision (inclusive of domestic partnerships)
- Employer Paid Life Insurance & Employee/Spouse/Child Supplemental life
- Voluntary Short/Long Term Disability Insurance
- 401K (Roth/Traditional)
- A generous PTO plan that celebrates your commitment and seniority (including paid Bereavement/Jury Duty, etc)
- Above market annual bonuses
