Director of Medical Record Operations

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Medical Record Operations to lead our teams of record retrieval specialists and nurse medical record reviewers. This role requires a strategic leader with strong project management skills, excellent technical acumen, and the ability to solve complex operational challenges. The ideal candidate will thrive in a data-driven environment and possess the expertise needed to streamline processes, manage audits, and ensure the highest quality outcomes in medical record retrieval and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and manage teams of record retrieval specialists and nurse medical record reviewers to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve the speed, accuracy, and quality of medical record retrieval and review processes.
- Oversee daily operations, workflows, and team metrics, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous improvements in overall department efficiency.
- Leverage advanced technical skills, including Excel and problem-solving capabilities, to analyze operational performance and develop actionable insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT and data analytics, to ensure seamless integration of systems and workflows.
- Utilize SQL and other data tools to support large-scale data analysis and reporting efforts.
- Manage audits and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and internal policies related to medical record retrieval and review processes.
- Identify opportunities to optimize processes through technology, automation, and data-driven decision-making.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, ensuring the security and confidentiality of patient information.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging professional development, process innovation, and operational excellence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, data analytics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred but not necessary.
- Proven experience managing teams in operational, medical, or data-driven environment.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering on-time, efficient, and high-quality results.
- Strong technical skills, with expertise in Excel (including advanced functions and data visualization).
- Experience with SQL and managing large datasets is highly desirable.
- Six Sigma certification or demonstrated experience in operational efficiency and process improvement is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience managing audits, ensuring compliance and large project timelines.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate across teams.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records processes, and healthcare compliance regulations is a plus.
