Marketing and Business Operations Analyst

Purpose: This role blends traditional finance responsibilities with a strong focus on business operations and marketing analysis. The ideal candidate will be analytical, process-oriented, and tech-savvy—comfortable navigating both financial processes and systems as well as operational workflows across departments. In addition to core Finance duties, this role will support cross-functional initiatives by delivering insights, streamlining systems, and producing actionable reporting that enhances marketing effectiveness and business decision-making. The right candidate will enjoy solving complex problems, building out scalable processes, and working in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
This position will be based in our Chicago office and work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week in office and 2 days per week remote. The compensation for this position is a base salary of $85,000 to $115,000, depending on experience, plus a discretionary bonus and benefits.
Essential Functions:
- Perform general Finance duties for the organization, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet account analysis, coordinating closely with the Finance team and affiliated entities.
- Support financial reporting, budgeting, and variance analysis processes, with an emphasis on developing insights to inform marketing and business operations strategies.
- Manage vendor records, review expense reports, and assist with accounts payable/receivable processes and related inquiries.
- Partner with marketing, IT, and business leadership to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend data-driven improvements.
- Collaborate with IT to manage and prioritize system enhancement requests related to business and marketing workflows; track and document enhancements in Azure DevOps.
- Analyze current operational processes and marketing workflows; develop standardized documentation (e.g., SOPs) using tools like Lucidchart.
- Translate business and marketing needs into functional requirements for systems improvements, data dashboards, or operational tooling.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports in Salesforce and Sigma to support marketing performance analysis and business operations tracking.
- Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for new business systems, marketing tools, or operational enhancements to ensure successful implementation.
- Support cross-functional teams by delivering insights, reports, and process documentation that drive efficiency, alignment, and decision-making.
- Reconcile vendor invoices against contracts, statements of work, and purchase records to ensure accurate and timely payment.
- Partner with vendors to identify and apply appropriate monthly credits, rebates, or billing adjustments; proactively resolve discrepancies or billing errors.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Finance Principles (GAAP).
- Understanding of accounts payable practices and general ledger structure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across financial, operational, and marketing data sets.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., Sigma, Salesforce dashboards).
- Experience with documenting business processes and workflows using tools like Lucidchart or similar.
- Familiarity with systems such as Azure DevOps, Salesforce, or marketing analytics platforms.
- Ability to translate business needs into structured technical requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time-management ability.
- Able to work independently or collaboratively across departments.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly when interfacing with non-finance stakeholders (e.g., marketing, IT, operations).
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience.
