Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting

Kickstarter is seeking a meticulous and forward-thinking Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting to join our Finance team. This role is critical to ensuring accurate, compliant, and scalable revenue accounting processes as we continue to support creators and backers worldwide. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you’ll partner with cross-functional teams—including Product, Legal, and Engineering—to align new products, payment flows, and business models with accounting standards. The ideal candidate combines strong ASC 606 expertise with a passion for automation and the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
The salary range in this role in the United States is $160,000 - $170,000.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and influence the preparation and review of revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules during month-end and quarter-end close cycles.
- Develop and optimize scalable, automated accounting processes to support evolving revenue streams while driving operational efficiency and compliance, establishing project management frameworks to streamline technical and go-to-market accounting initiatives for continuous improvement.
- Research, document, and implement revenue recognition policies, ensuring compliance with ASC 606 and addressing complex contractual arrangements.
- Provide technical guidance on new business models and product launches, assessing revenue implications and aligning them with accounting standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to drive the design, implementation, and testing of new revenue recognition systems, enhancements, and integrations with ERP systems - focusing on large-scale data workflows from payment platforms.
- Engage and align multiple business partners such as FP&A, Accounting, Legal, Tax, and Product in the development of standard operating procedures as they impact the revenue process and top line results and proactively ensure that all revenue impacting activities are thoroughly assessed for accuracy and compliance.
- Lead strategic revenue accounting projects and other process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Assist in ad-hoc analyses and projects for the revenue, finance, accounting and tax teams.
About You
- You have 5+ years progressive accounting experience, combining public accounting fundamentals with industry exposure and a focus on revenue recognition.
- You have a B.A. or B.S. in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a closely related discipline.
- You have expert experience and understanding of payment processor workflows
- You have hands-on reconciliation experience (e.g., working with payment platforms or fintech solutions) and can tackle complex, high-volume, multi-currency transactions in a global setting.
- You have a breadth of experience in US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition guidance.
- You have experience in researching, documenting, and effectively communicating technical accounting matters under ASC 606.
- You have expert Excel knowledge (required); experience with automation tools is a major advantage.
- You have experience working with databases and SQL across standard commercial databases or demonstrated ability to learn these systems (required).
- You’re a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment to proactively drive results - quick to learn and adjust accordingly.
- You have excellent problem-solving skills and experience analyzing high volume, multi-currency transactions in a global business environment.
- You have the ability to work meticulously and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- You have strong interpersonal and team building skills - ability to work with a diverse team and impart change across functional and business boundaries.
- You have the ability to design, lead and implement internal controls and best practices.
- You have exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
