Senior Accountant, Tax

Kickstarter is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant, Tax to join our Finance team. This role plays a critical part in managing both indirect and direct tax functions across the company and its subsidiaries. You’ll ensure compliance processes are accurate, timely, and scalable as Kickstarter grows globally. You’ll collaborate closely with tax advisors, legal, product, and insights teams to evaluate implications of new offerings, support filings, and strengthen tax technology tools. The ideal candidate thrives at the intersection of tax expertise, technology, and cross-functional collaboration, with the motivation to bring structure, automation, and clarity to a fast-paced, global environment. Candidates based in Ireland or the United Kingdom are highly preferred.
The salary range for this role in Ireland is €65,000–80,000. The salary range for this role in the United Kingdom is £65,000–80,000.
In this role, you will:
- Play a key role with indirect and direct tax functions for Kickstarter and all subsidiaries.
- Be responsible for the maintenance of compliance processes within the Company’s tax technology tools and ensure accurate and timely VAT, sales tax, and corporate filings in applicable jurisdictions are processed timely (via the various advisors/tools Kickstarter uses to handle compliance).
- Lead initiatives that automate and scale global tax processes through technology implementation and best practices.
- Work closely with the Company’s tax advisors in various jurisdictions to ensure (1) tax advice and assumed risk is communicated to the Company’s internal stakeholders and product teams (2) external filings are completed.
- Serve as key contact for Company’s third party tax calculation software (Avalara) and tax advisors to assist with new initiatives as the Company expands its tax compliance product features.
- Work closely with the Insights team to reconcile internal data reports to filed returns.
- Oversee product testing as it relates to tax calculations with new product features or as the Company continues to collect in new jurisdictions.
- Serve as finance POC for content creation of the Company’s tax help center and assist with VAT (and all other indirect tax) questions from the Company’s customers.
- Maintain and respond to tax notices and support audits as needed.
- Partner with legal and product teams to evaluate tax implications of new offerings or markets.
- Report to/work directly accounting team to ensure that any direct or indirect tax items are properly reflected in the Company’s audited financial statements and own workpapers and record all indirect tax journal entries as part of the month end close process.
About You
- You have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or taxation, and you hold an active CPA license (or equivalent) in good standing. Candidates based in Ireland or the United Kingdom are highly preferred.
- You have 4+ years of relevant experience in indirect tax, specifically EU VAT, global indirect tax, and/or corporate tax compliance.
- You have experience working with sales tax platforms such as Avalara or Vertex (preferred).
- You have strong working knowledge of UK/EU VAT regimes, OSS/IOSS, place of supply rules, and international digital goods tax application.
- You’re a self-starter with strong personal drive and excellent attention to detail.
- You have strong time-management skills and can handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- You’re able to translate complex tax concepts to individuals at all levels, including non-finance managers.
- You have knowledge of systems implementations such as QBO.
- You have experience with marketplace tax facilitator rules, digital products, or e-commerce (highly desirable).
