Adult Education ESL Instructor (full-time, on-site)
THIS IS A FULL-TIME POSITION THAT WILL REQUIRE ON-SITE INSTRUCTION

THE TEAM:
The Kinexus Academic/Vocational Services team serves to develop and enhance academic and employability skill sets for participants interested in gaining an academic secondary credential and/or entry level employment. Skilled professionals meet participants at their unique skill levels to sharpen the minds of both youth and adults. The Kinexus Academic/Vocational Services team offers services that eliminate barriers to employment while instilling workplace etiquette and industry specific expectations to participants. This team will work in collaboration with both the Business and Talent teams to connect participants to employment opportunities, while ensuring participants complete employability training.
OUR DESIRED OUTCOMES:
Our long-term outcomes for the Adult Education ESL Instructor is to support English Language Learners in their pursuit of obtaining GEDs. The Adult Education ESL Instructor will work closely with the Adult Education Team to identify students who need ESL improvement and provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in all GED learning concepts. The Adult Education ESL Instructor will enroll and assess students as needed. The Adult Education ESL Instructor will also monitor student progress on our online learning platform as well and assign practice GED tests as well as official GED tests and complete data entry and classroom attendance as needed.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
The Adult Education ESL Instructor is a key player within the Adult Education Team. Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Teaching ESL courses using instructional methods toward the adult learner in a one-on-one, small group, and/or classroom setting. Courses may be in-person, remote, or a hybrid.
- Developing lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students to increase English language skills.
- Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods to help students make learning gains.
- Complete and maintain student attendance, records, and ensure timely data entry in accordance with the MAERS User Manual.
- Providing assistance and support to learners in the learning lab and by connecting learners to our online learning platform
- Be motivational and inspiring to learners along their educational journey
- Ability to stay up-to-date on all documentation for local, state and federal levels.
- Conducting regular check-ins with learners to support retention efforts.
- Supporting non-ESL students, when needed.
- Assisting in the development of academic and other resources to enhance the program and adult learner success.
- Assisting with participant outreach efforts to attract English Language Learners.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Certified to teach ESL
- Fluent in Spanish
- Familiarity with literacy programs, testing, and specific needs of adult learners
- Strong ability to teach literacy skills in both one-on-one to small group instruction
- Three years classroom teaching experience and/or case management experience
- Computer skills, experience with online learning platform, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Organization and attention to detail
- Efficient interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Three years classroom teaching experience in alternative education, or “at risk” population
- Secondary education certification
- Familiarity with adult education
- Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on Mathematics or Language Arts
- Project management skills
- Experience with assigning student work based on assessments
- Experience with computer-based learning
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.

- Predominantly Benton Harbor Service Center
- Mobile site locations to be assigned by Adult Education Manager
