THE TEAM:
Bridge Academy of Southwest Michigan (BASWM) is a 9th -12th public school academy, offering a no-nonsense approach to graduation attainment, wrap around services and meaningful career exploration opportunities. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU:
Youth Mentorship & Career Readiness
- Identify, recruit, and instruct young adults who are no longer in a traditional school setting and are seeking a path to a meaningful career.
- Design and teach daily training sessions for mastery of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) National competencies utilizing project-based learning, hands-on activities, film presentations, guest speakers, workshops, and other instructional methods.
- Provide young adults with information on high demand career pathways and opportunities to explore career options and develop interest (hiring events, job fairs, talent tours, and statewide and local special events and activities).
- Serve as the supervisor of the Student Professional Association.
- Serve as the advisor to the JMG Professional Association within the program.
- Provide mentoring and wrap-around services. Refer to public or private agencies in the community as needed to overcome barriers to success.
- Assist young adults in developing service-learning projects (community service) and work experience.
School-to-Career Transition and Employer Engagement
- Work with the Michigan Works! business services team and business partners to develop outside opportunities such as work-based learning and/or job shadowing.
- Outreach to businesses for purposes of engagement in projects and work-based learning opportunities, including business tours, job shadows, service learning projects, internships, apprenticeships, etc.
- Outreach to postsecondary institutions to provide guidance and resources and set up college tours and guest speakers based on in-demand career pathways.
- Assists young adults in enrolling in post-secondary educational programs.
- Works closely with JMG graduates, employers, and postsecondary providers for 12 months after program completion to ensure positive outcomes in employment and/or postsecondary education/training.
- Support students and promote their success in school with barrier management, supportive services, and career exploration.
- Maintain weekly check-ins with caseload of students, invest in their journey towards graduation and encourage their engagement in school requirements.
- Encourage positive student behavior while at school, coach students when additional reinforcement or redirection is needed.
- Outreach to businesses for purposes of engagement in projects and work-based learning opportunities, including business tours, job shadows, service-learning projects, internships, apprenticeships, etc.
- Maintain positive working relationship with Youth Solutions to ensure quality delivery of the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates contract and metrics
- Attend weekly JMG professional development and networking events (as scheduled) to ensure high quality service delivery
Data & Program Management
- Regular data entry into appropriate database(s) for BASWM caseload.
- Complete daily (model services), monthly, quarterly and yearly reports for all JMG enrolled youth in JAG Force data system
- Provide personal and confidential information for screening in accordance with local organizational policies.
- Complete and regularly maintain all paper and electronic documentation as required by Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates, the JAG National organization, and other partners. Submit properly completed written and electronic documentation as directed by Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates.
- Work with Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates to complete all monitoring agreements and documentation required.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMEMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience obtained through education or years' experience in social service, counseling, career development, case management a related discipline preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a chauffer’s license for student transportation
- Criminal records clearance.
- Unprofessional conduct clearance.
- Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of positive youth development strategies.
- Ability to obtain strong classroom management skills.
- Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques.
- Understanding of trauma-informed initiatives, community resilience model and other relevant coping resources that support student success
- Compassion regarding issues facing young people who have not completed high school and a deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults.
- Experience with at-risk student population
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with youth.
- Exceptional communication skills to include formal presentations.
- Ability to improve curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JAG model.
- Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as word processing and ability to enter and understand data.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.
