About our Co-op

Our Software Engineering Co-op is small. This is purposeful - so we can ensure each Co-op has meaningful and robust projects that directly impact our product and customers. It also creates a tight-knit group of Co-ops who get to bond with each other over the course of Co-op.

Co-ops are valued members of our engineering department, which is made up of small, agile teams that collaborate across Klaviyo to constantly ship work that impacts our product. Co-ops have ownership over features, while also learning from and connecting with fellow Klaviyos from engineering, product, design, and beyond to make sure they craft the right solutions. We operate a real-time data platform coded in Python built for massive scale on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our frontend is built in modern React and Typescript serving customers around the world.

We move fast here - Co-ops work on projects at scale and ship their work continuously throughout the summer. We offer a supportive environment where Co-ops can test, fail, iterate and launch while building a solid technical foundation, awesome connections across the Klaviyo and having fun.

Co-ops come to Klaviyo with experience in a variety of coding languages, but they are all passionate about building, owning and scaling features end-to-end from scratch and breaking through any obstacle or technical challenge in their way.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Own features that our 150K+ paying customers rely on daily to reach their consumers to drive their business forward
  • Build new UI experiences to make complex areas of Klaviyo easier to use.
  • Work on foundational areas to help us internationalize Klaviyo, and make it more accessible and performant.
  • The code you write will help empower tens of thousands of Klaviyo customers daily to gain more value from the platform.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least one previous software engineering internship or co-op with software development experience
  • Graduating in December 2025 or May/June 2026
  • Experience with React
  • Experience with some of these technologies and languages:

    • React, HTML, Typescript, JavaScript
    • Amazon Web Services (EC2, RDS, Aurora, etc.) Terraform, Ansible, Packer, and other DevOps tools
  • Enjoy working with new technologies and adept at selecting the right tool for any job
  • Love digging into performance and scalability issues to drive breakthrough solutions-- whether it's a slow loading UI or too many clicks in a workflow, a database query timing out, or a queue that just won’t drain. You recognize all problems can be solved.
  • Enjoy shipping code early & often in an agile fashion, pairing with product management to craft better software by soliciting feedback from thousands of end users
  • Embrace Klaviyo’s “always learning” culture that fosters learning at every level, constantly pushing yourself to be a better engineer

Our Teams

Audience Growth

Engineers on the Audience Growth team have a unique opportunity to build experiences that are interacted with by millions of people every day. Engineers on the Audience Growth team can expect to work on a wide variety of projects, both enhancements to existing products, like Klaviyo's best-in-class Sign-up Forms product, and greenfield projects, new technologies, and new product offerings. We're a team that loves to iterate quickly, learn from our mistakes, and challenge each other to develop the best experiences for our customers. We're looking for someone who loves to jump into new projects and solve hard problems.

Component Library

The Component Library Team provides the tools and developer documentation to empower the engineering organization to build consistent, accessible user experiences.

Our mission is to provide consistency, testing, documentation, and accessibility for common user experiences throughout Klaviyo. By ensuring that our components are intuitive and inclusive, we can reduce the cognitive load of our customers, and improve time to delivery for our organization.

Onboarding

The Onboarding team at Klaviyo is focused on improving the early experience of Klaviyo for new customers. We work diligently to improve the rate at which customers are successfully setting up their Klaviyo account and gaining value from the platform. Engineers on the Onboarding team use data to discover opportunities for improvement, implement A/B tests to validate ideas, and work across the product to iteratively improve UX and reduce confusion for new customers. We are looking for great generalist software engineers that have an interest in growing a user-base and building a great customer onboarding pipeline.

Reviews

Reviews is a new offering at Klaviyo that provides our customers with the ability to record product reviews on their e-commerce store. Our reviews offering allows for easy installation, integrates seamlessly with the rest of the product and an easy to use onsite experience that enables our customers to record reviews on their products. As we have recently launched we're looking to build on the momentum and expand our offering quickly. We are looking for someone who can iterate quickly and enjoys working on a fast paced team.

Web Platform

The Web Platform team has a wide range of responsibilities that center around how we build, ship, monitor, and deploy our Javascript code. Engineers on this team primarily focus on improving our local frontend development experience, CI/CD pipeline for JS assets, performance + error monitoring systems, and a number of other things. Recently, the Web Platform team has also focused on building shared platform level systems, such as a "backend for frontend" service implemented with GraphQL, as well as implementing various improvements to our overall application performance. We are looking for engineers that already have some professional frontend experience and want to work on complex frontend problems that impact the entire Klaviyo product.

Co-op Logistics

  • Our Co-op program is a paid experience at our Boston, MA headquarters from January-June 2025
  • Before diving into individual teams and projects, all co-ops will complete Klaviyo Base Camp - a week-plus onboarding experience. Base Camp provides focused time to learn about Klaviyo, our product, the ins and outs of engineering and spend time getting to know other new Klaviyos. This robust training experience ensures all co-ops join their teams fully prepared to dive into project work and make an immediate impact.
  • Our Boston office is fun - our co-ops stay fueled with free snacks and drinks, take breaks over a game of ping pong, Nintendo or round of golf with our simulator, and relax in our speakeasy (yes you read that right!).
