
Staff Accountant
The Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in New York. This role plays a key part in ensuring accuracy and transparency across Kobalt’s financial reporting and operational processes. You’ll be involved in month-end close, reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting both audits and strategic projects.

What You’ll Do
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, preparing and reviewing reconciliations and journal entries across balance sheet and P&L accounts.
- Conduct detailed monthly variance analysis of cost centers, ensuring proper coding of operating expenses.
- Assist in documenting accounting policies and procedures, while identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Support quarterly reviews and annual external audits by preparing analyses and providing necessary documentation.
- Contribute to special projects and ad hoc assignments in support of management and strategic initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- 1–3 years’ experience in accounting with a desire to grow.
- Solid working knowledge of accrual-based accounting with exposure to full P&L and balance sheet.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or similar).
- Team player with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and critical thinking ability.
Desirable:
- Experience in a medium-sized, fast-paced accounting environment.
- Familiarity with NetSuite or other accounting systems.
- CPA candidate status.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
What Success Looks Like
- By Month 3: You’ll be independently managing reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis with accuracy and attention to detail.
- By Month 6: You’ll be a trusted contributor in the month-end close process and actively identifying opportunities for process improvements.
- By Year 1: You’ll play a key role in audits, financial reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives, demonstrating confidence and ownership in your work.

The range provided is for NYC-based hires only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations other than NYC may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. Pay range: $65,000 - $75,000
