Science Media Producer
About the Company
In the coming decades, our world needs far more critical minerals including copper, lithium, and cobalt, to build electric infrastructure, vehicles, data centers, and electronics. The mining industry is making 10x fewer discoveries per dollar spent on exploration compared to 30 years ago because the easy-to-find, near surface deposits have largely been discovered.
KoBold is the leading scientific mineral exploration, mine development, and technology development company. Our goal is to turn mineral exploration into a repeatable science to discover the minerals the world needs—by integrating artificial intelligence, human intelligence, and new technology. Our multidisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, and geologists work together to build data systems, design new sensors, and establish industry-leading workflows to develop and test subsurface predictions on our exploration projects.
Our first discovery, Mingomba, is a high-grade copper deposit in Zambia, found after spending materially less than industry average. We are developing Mingomba with the same technical rigor that we apply to exploration. The Mingomba team brings together mine and processing engineers, geologists, data scientists, software engineers, and community, health & safety, construction, and operations specialists. By combining industry knowledge and cutting edge technology, we are developing Mingomba into a world class project that has safer and more predictable outcomes for ourselves, partners, and communities. It is expected to create thousands of good jobs for generations.
KoBold runs exploration programs in eight countries, all with the potential for another discovery.
KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and strategic natural resources companies BHP and Mitsubishi.
About the Role
This role will be responsible for creating technical and scientific content for internal and external audiences (such as investors, government officials, the public) about KoBold’s projects, science, and technology. You will collaborate closely with KoBold’s leaders, exploration teams, and technology teams to understand deeply and communicate compelling stories effectively in written, video, and graphical formats.
We are seeking an analytically minded producer, who has a track-record of overseeing the production of scientific or technical content for a variety of audiences. Our ideal candidate brings a scientific or technical background, a strong track record in content creation, and hands-on video editing and animation skills. However, we encourage individuals with strong analytical and technical skills, alongside storytelling and writing skills, to apply even if you do not have video production experience.
Note: please submit a portfolio with your application that includes examples of past graphic, video, and any other scientific storytelling work relevant to this role. Only applicants who submit a portfolio will be considered.

- Write, edit and provide feedback on written content, including reports, case studies, social media, and presentation scripts to tell scientific stories for investors and other external, and internal audiences
- Work with and advise internal staff on their scientific presentations, to ensure they are informative and accessible
- Travel to KoBold events and work sites to direct field shoots, scientific interactions and other activities to generate content about our field programs and operations
Qualifications
- Ability to understand technical information and turn it into compelling stories for non-expert audiences. A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company.
- Strong writing and storytelling skills across a variety of formats, including social media
- A proficient executor with a keen eye for design details and editorial judgment to decide what to cut, emphasize, or reframe
- At least 5 years experience in a scientific or technical multimedia creation role for a public-facing brand or organization, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

- (Preferred) Experience in sourcing, hiring, and managing vendors for video; including filming, voiceover, and video editing/animation.
- Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about all aspects of mineral exploration, particularly in the geology domain. Enjoys constantly learning such that you are driving insights through using our tools in exploration and willing to work directly with geologists in the field.
- Excitement about joining a fast-growing early-stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and eagerness to take on an evolving range of responsibilities.
- Keen not just to execute projects, but to figure out how to best achieve the business objectives of the company.
