
Autonomy/AI Software Engineer -Early Career
Kodiak Robotics, Inc. was founded in 2018 and has become a leader in autonomous ground transportation committed to a safer and more efficient future for all. The company has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) powered technology stack purpose-built for commercial trucking and the public sector. The company delivers freight daily for its customers across the southern United States using its autonomous technology. In 2024, Kodiak became the first known company to publicly announce delivering a driverless semi-truck to a customer. Kodiak is also leveraging its commercial self-driving software to develop, test and deploy autonomous capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense.
We’re looking for new grads and early career Software Engineers with strong C++ skills to help build and refine our cutting-edge autonomy stack. You'll have the chance to work on real-world, safety-critical code and contribute to systems that are actively driving on the road. In this role, you will:
- Write modern C++ in a production environment
- Collaborate with and receive mentorship from world-class engineers across perception, machine learning, planning, controls, and simulation
- Develop new features and behaviors for driverless trucks
- Optimize performance and reliability for real-time autonomous driving applications
- Embody innovation and collaboration
- Think creatively and resourcefully to solve problems
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field
- C++ Coding Skills. You are a strong problem-solver and critical thinker
- Flexibility. You have the ability to work across domains on a wide range of challenges
- Curiosity. You are interested in new domains to expand your horizons as a software engineer and provide a complete system wide solution
- Great communicator. You are writing clear and concise documentation to gather feedback from across the team to find the best solution
- A team player. You take ownership and work with the team to deliver exceptional results. You are interested in the performance of the entire system across engineering disciplines

Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Please note that the compensation details listed above are base salary only and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
California Pay Range
$130 - $180 USD
