Patient Access Specialist / Lab Technician

Responsibilities
- In person part-time 20-30 hours per week schedule 5:30am - 1:30pm including rotating Saturday 6:00am - 9:00am
- Manage appointments by checking in patients, directing walk-ins, coordinating patient flow, and supporting chart/document availability for care providers.
- Serve as the first point of contact by answering phones, routing calls/messages, and maintaining a professional, HIPAA-compliant interaction with patients and visitors.
- Collect and document co-pays/self-payments, maintain records, and follow established systems, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Monitor waiting area safety, respond to clinical alerts, and ensure adherence to patient requirements (e.g., screenings, appointments).
- Maintain a clean, organized front desk and waiting area.
- Collect urine specimens (observed/unobserved), perform point-of-care testing (toxicology & pregnancy), and ensure accurate labeling and tracking.
- Follow aseptic techniques, maintain specimen integrity, prepare and ship samples properly, and adhere to all lab policies, quality control standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Accurately record test results, maintain logs, track collections, and document quality control and any corrective actions.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment and ensure proper handling of supplies and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members, communicate supply needs, assist with clerical tasks, and report any issues affecting test performance.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in a medical office, hospital, or similar patient-facing environment (5+ preferred)
- Working knowledge of medical insurance, billing, and related regulations
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and ability to learn new systems/software
- Strong verbal and written communication, professional phone etiquette, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and stay organized
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Self-motivated with a strong drive to achieve goals

The base pay range for this position is $20/hour - $23/hour. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, licensure, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
