Governance Project Manager

Remote - United States

Kunai builds full-stack technology solutions for banks, credit and payment networks, infrastructure providers, and their customers. Together, we are changing the world’s relationship with financial services. At Kunai, we help our clients modernize, capitalize on emerging trends, and evolve their business for the coming decades by remaining tech-agnostic and human-centered.

We’re looking for a Project Manager to join a Governance team responsible for the migration of compliance, risk, and regulatory oversight for a leading banking client. In this role, you’ll help drive initiatives that strengthen risk management and compliance across the bank. You won’t just manage tasks; you’ll be the connector between risk, compliance, legal, audit, and business teams, making sure the bank delivers on its commitments to customers, leadership, and regulators.

What You’ll Do

  • Take ownership of governance and risk projects from start to finish — planning, execution, tracking, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

  • Lead remediation work tied to regulatory or audit findings. That means setting clear milestones, assigning ownership, and ensuring projects wrap up on time and to standard.

  • Help roll out new governance frameworks and policies across the bank, working with teams to make sure changes stick and are understood.

  • Keep everyone informed with clear updates — whether it’s a detailed progress report for auditors or a concise summary for executives.

  • Build tools and reports (dashboards, trackers, risk registers) that keep leadership confident we’re on track.

  • Act as the “glue” between cross-functional groups, helping remove roadblocks and making sure priorities stay aligned.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of project management experience, ideally in banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.

  • Familiarity with governance, risk, compliance, or audit processes. You don’t need to be a lawyer or risk officer, but you should know how these worlds connect.

  • A bias for action. You’re the type who likes to cut through ambiguity, create structure, and make steady progress.

  • Strong communication skills — you can tailor your message whether you’re talking with engineers, risk managers, or board members.

  • Comfort with project management tools (JIRA, MS Project, Confluence).

Why This Role Matters

In banking, governance is about more than rules — it’s about trust. The work you do will help ensure we operate responsibly, protect our customers, and maintain confidence with regulators and stakeholders. If you enjoy managing meaningful projects, building relationships, and making complex environments run more smoothly, this is a great opportunity to have a real impact.

Our success over the past 20 years is rooted in our exceptional team, which thrives in a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous learning.

We are proud to offer our employees a range of benefits, including competitive compensation, professional development opportunities, and flexible work arrangements, all designed to help them thrive. As we continue to expand, we remain committed to cultivating an environment where people feel valued, have a voice, and are given the tools to grow—both personally and professionally—while pushing the boundaries of innovation in the fintech industry.

Minimum Degree Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, in lieu of a degree, demonstrating in addition to the minimum years of experience required for the role, three years of specialized training and/or progressively responsible work experience in technology for each missing year of college is required
