AI Platform Engineer

Austin, TX

KUNGFU.AI is a leading AI-native consulting firm. We partner with ambitious organizations through multi-year cycles of transformation to help them compete and lead in the age of AI. Our work spans AI strategy, applied machine learning and engineering, and the operationalization of AI into real products, processes, and decision systems.

We are not a slideware consultancy. We design and build production-grade AI systems that drive measurable business outcomes. Our teams combine deep technical expertise with pragmatic consulting discipline to move clients from experimentation to impact.

Platform Engineers at KUNGFU.AI work alongside Machine Learning Engineers and Data Scientists on client project teams to design architecture, build infrastructure, and establish frameworks that enable rapid, production-grade iteration. This is an embedded, collaborative role grounded in seamless teamwork — not a siloed advisory function.

As a Platform Engineer, you shape how KUNGFU.AI approaches infrastructure as a discipline. You design cross-project platform standards, reference architectures, and reusable patterns that accelerate every engagement. You lead select client projects — building trusted relationships with clients and owning infrastructure strategy with minimal Director of Engineering support. You also begin working cross-functionally with business development, strategy, and marketing teams, contributing to SOW development and advising on feasibility as roadmaps take shape. Your influence extends beyond your own projects to the broader engineering organization.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Design and maintain reference architectures, templates, starter kits, and golden paths that standardize infrastructure patterns across client engagements
  • Lead select client projects, including building trusted client relationships and owning infrastructure delivery with light DoE support
  • Drive code quality and infrastructure standards across project teams — through code review, pairing, and establishing conventions
  • Evaluate and rapidly adopt emerging cloud services, infrastructure tooling, and deployment patterns, recommending adoption where they benefit the team
  • Contribute to SOW development by scoping infrastructure effort, identifying risks, and defining technical approach for proposals
  • Work with strategy teams to advise on feasibility and help scope engineering efforts on roadmaps as they are being developed
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with BD, marketing, and strategy teams on infrastructure-related topics
  • Navigate ambiguity in client environments — where requirements are unclear, constraints are evolving, and the "right" architecture isn't obvious
  • Drive long-term strategic thinking about infrastructure patterns, tooling choices, and platform maturity for the engineering organization
  • Mentor junior and senior engineers on both technical and non-technical dimensions

What we'd like to see:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Expert-level proficiency in AWS; working proficiency in Azure
  • Expert-level experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or AWS CDK) across complex, multi-environment deployments
  • Deep experience designing and operating containerized systems at scale (Docker, ECS/Fargate, EKS/Kubernetes)
  • Experience designing CI/CD strategies for multi-project or multi-team environments
  • Strong understanding of security, networking, and compliance across cloud environments
  • Experience with ML workflow infrastructure — model serving, inference servers (e.g., Triton, vLLM, TGI, TorchServe), training pipelines, data pipeline tooling — in collaboration with ML practitioners
  • Experience deploying and managing LLM-based applications in production (RAG pipelines, API orchestration, vector stores, prompt management)
  • Experience provisioning and managing GPU-accelerated compute environments, including instance selection, driver/runtime configuration, scaling strategies, and cost optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to define reusable infrastructure patterns and standards adopted across teams or projects
  • Experience leading technical delivery on client projects or engagements
  • Experience contributing to proposals, SOWs, or scoping exercises
  • Strong client relationship and communication skills
  • Experience mentoring engineers at multiple levels

What’s in it for you:

If this opportunity excites you, we can’t wait to meet you! Please send your resume along with a cover letter explaining why you’re passionate about the idea of joining KUNGFU.AI and a great fit for this role. If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
