Summary of Job
The Director, MSL – Immunology is a field-based leadership role within the Medical Affairs organization, responsible for leading the Immunology Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team and serving as a key liaison to the external medical and scientific community on behalf of Kyowa Kirin.
This role guides and supports the MSL team in identifying, engaging, and building relationships with patient advocacy organizations, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and other healthcare professionals (HCPs). The Director actively participates in scientific exchange through field ride-alongs, medical congresses, and advisory board engagements.
As needed, the Director may also provide interim field coverage for open or temporarily vacant territories (e.g., vacation, leave of absence, transitions) and perform core MSL responsibilities to ensure continuity of field medical support.
Essential Functions:
Acts as a role model to lead U.S. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Immunology program
- Become well-versed in the relevant disease state, related literature, and Kyowa Kirin rare disease–focused products
- Participate in and contribute to annual strategic medical planning
- Lead development and execution of the KOL engagement plan
- Contribute to the development of an MSL training plan
- Hire, train, develop, inspire, and mentor MSL team members
- Create and execute a strategic MSL plan
- Develop team goals and coach team members
- Manage performance and compliance of the MSL team
- Compile, organize, and synthesize insights gathered by the MSL team
- Coordinate with internal partners to identify educational gaps and organize team and/or individual training
- Work regularly in the field (territory and/or conferences) with each MSL team member
- Assist MSL team members in guiding healthcare professionals through the IIS submission process
- Support the MSL team in educating healthcare professionals and, when appropriate, managed market decision-makers on Kyowa Kirin’s product portfolio
- Identify team educational needs through observation and collaborate with the training team to address gaps
- Ensure dissemination of transparent, fair-balanced, and compliant scientific and clinical information in a timely, ethical, and customer-focused manner
- Facilitate speaker development and training
- Attend and provide scientific support at select national, regional, and local medical conferences
- Participate in advisory boards and clinical investigator meetings, as appropriate
- Translate and communicate high-quality field insights to leadership and Medical Affairs colleagues
- Identify team members’ strengths, development areas, and interests; develop Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
- Assign projects to strengthen capabilities and address knowledge or skill gaps
- Adhere to all company regulatory and compliance policies was this cleaned up
Job Requirements:
Education
- A doctorate level degree (e.g. MD, PharmD, PhD) in life sciences with relevant experience is preferred; however, a relevant life science bachelor’s degree (e.g. RN, MS) is required
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of Medical Science Liaison experience
- At least two (2) years of MSL management experience
- Preferably within immunology therapeutic areas

- Outstanding leadership abilities with a demonstrated capacity to lead, inspire, build collaborative relationships, and effectively manage and resolve conflict
- Results-driven with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
- Demonstrated success working cross-functionally across functions and stakeholders
- Deep understanding of drug development processes and applicable legal and regulatory compliance requirements
- Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, and presentation capabilities
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Commitment to the highest ethical, legal, regulatory, and scientific standards in all aspects of work
Non-Technical Skills
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, make decisions, and adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and execution

Physical Requirements:
Normal office environment with prolonged sitting and extensive computer work
Requires up to 70% domestic and international travel.

The anticipated salary for this position will be $260,000 to $274,000. The actual salary offered for this role at commencement of employment may vary based on several factors including but not limited to relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, education (including applicable licenses and certifications, job-based knowledge, location, and other business and organizational needs.
