Director of Relay Experience, Torch Relays
The Torch Relays (RLY) functional area is responsible for the planning & execution of LA28’s Olympic & Paralympic Torch Relays. They are key national engagement & promotional tools, creating an inclusive and accessible Games experience for people of all backgrounds and abilities and developing a sense of excitement and anticipation across the country leading up to the Olympic & Paralympic Opening Ceremonies.
The Director of Relay Experience is responsible for shaping the fan experience along the relay routes – from roadside moments to community-based celebrations. We are seeking a creative leader to bring LA28's brand to life across the country, driving strategy while overseeing operational delivery. The ideal candidate has experience leading the end-to-end process from creative strategy through to production, as well as an eye for commercial integration.
This role will report to the Head of Torch Relays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop holistic experiential strategy for the relays
- Write creative briefs to guide concepting of key components of the relays
- Manage external operational partner(s), overseeing creative development, project planning and execution
- Coordinate with the broader LA28 RLY team to effectively plan & deliver key components of the relays
- Collaborate with commercial teams to ideate, sell, and integrate Partner activations
- Work cross-functionally with other LA28 functional areas (FAs) and external stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment
- Manage operational budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial constraints
Background & Qualifications:
- Minimum 8+ years in experiential marketing, event production, or brand activations
- Agency and mobile tour experience preferred
Position Requirements:
- Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA
- Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
- 2025-2027: approx. 30-40% annually for stakeholder meetings, observation opportunities, site-checks, etc.
- 2028: expectation to be on the road with the Torch Relays
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Expectations:
- Highly effective creative leader with the ability to see ideas through to execution
- Track record of successfully delivering large-scale, multi-faceted and operationally challenging event production
- Ability to self-manage multiple projects and tight timelines
- In-depth understanding of the live events industry, including logistical, technical, and regulatory considerations
- Up to date on marketing trends, delivering culturally relevant activations
- Strong ability to navigate and align cross-functional stakeholder interests
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Understanding of and sensitivity to various cultures and traditions

The annual base salary range for this position is $126,000.00 - $170,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
