Managing Counsel, Games Revenue and Commercial Operations:
The Managing Counsel will be an integral part of the legal team, working closely with the Associate General Counsel and broader legal department to advise LA28’s senior management on legal matters. This position will leverage negotiation, relationship-building, critical-thinking and communication skills to (1) support the Games Revenue functional area legal needs, including supporting negotiations with hospitality and accommodations providers, universities, ticket resellers, food and beverage concessionaires, and media agencies, (2) negotiate operational contracts and oversee team of more junior attorneys negotiating operational contracts to ensure consistency across required forms and requirements, and (3) draft summaries and legal memoranda.

This position will report to the Associate General Counsel – Games Revenue & Commercial Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support senior members of legal department on identified business transactions and legal matters critical to LA28’s Games-time revenue generation needs, including hospitality agreements, university agreements, ticket resale agreements, concessionaire agreements, agency and media agreements, and other commercial contracts.
- Steady stream of self-directed analytical work, meetings, decision-making and drafting, including preparing, reviewing, redlining, and independently negotiating all varieties of operational contracts including but not limited to service agreements, event agreements, confidentiality agreements, real estate documents, and technology agreements.
- Experience training and overseeing group of operational contracts lawyers to ensure contracts are legally sound, protect LA28’s rights, comply with LA28’s contractual and other obligations and past precedent, and align with strategic objectives across high volume contract workstreams.
- Work closely with individual departments to anticipate, identify and manage operational contract needs, including new requests and renewals.
- Review and understand all relevant corporate/stakeholder documents driving relevant workstream requirements (including Host City Contract, Olympic Charter, Code of Ethics, etc.).
- Work with outside counsel on matters requiring representation. Update and maintain LA28’s suite of template contracts and terms and conditions, as necessitated by changes in operational needs and law.
- Ensure compliance with applicable international, federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Conduct legal research in support of contracting subject matter and other topics important to overall legal operations for LA28.
- Keep current on industry-wide legal trends and developments.
- Perform other significant projects / duties as assigned by the Associate General Counsel.
While experience in these areas is preferred, we also look for candidates with intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated ability to learn quickly to round out areas where a candidate may not have depth of experience. Background & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in contract review and negotiation required.
- Previous law firm and in-house experience. Prior in-house experience a plus
- Experience in hospitality or live-event contracting is a plus (but not required).
- Experience managing team of attorneys to ensure consistency across transactional matters.
- Local candidates preferred.
- License to practice law, be in good standing with the California State Bar and have the ability to practice law in California.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA
- Sitting/Standing: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in typing and using office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.
- Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.
Education:
- Undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school required.

The annual base salary range for this position is $160,000-$175,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
