Sr. Manager, Sport Schedules & Services

The Senior Manager, Sport Schedules & Services will play a critical role within the LA28 Sport team, reporting to the VP, Sport, and leading and contributing to centralized planning deliverables and services of the Sport function. This role will work within Sport and with the Competition Management team to progress function planning deliverables, including but not limited to competition and training schedules and related contingency plans, sport entries, weather services and sport publications.   

The role will be expected to collaborate within the Sport department as well as with other LA28 Sport and Games Delivery and Games Services functional areas. As well, the Senior Manager will coordinate with external partners such as the International Federations, OBS, Omega, IOC, IPC and weather services partner. 

Key Responsibilities:

 Sport Services & Partner Integration 

  • Effectively integrate external delivery partners for sport entries (IOC) and weather services, as well as manage all contractual requirements 
  • Oversee the sport entries project, supporting cross-functional integration, operating plans, and project management of key deliverables in lockstep with the IOC 
  • Support the development of the agreement with the weather services provider, ensuring that all LA28’s weather services requirements are scoped and captured across Olympic and Paralympic sports, including testing activities and Games-time delivery 
  • Direct the development and validation of all Sport schedules, including competition, training, and Detail Competition Activities Schedule (DCAS) across all Olympic and Paralympic sports, including oversight on all change management  
  • Ensure the competition and training schedules project and outputs have visibility both within the organization for coordinated and accurate planning by all Functions and with key Delivery Partners (e.g., Omega, OBS, Public Transit partners) 
  • Support the development of Sport policies, procedures and contingency plans for Games-time that are impacted and/or influenced by Sport schedules and weather services, including the joint IOC/IPC Delay, Postponement, Advancement and Cancellation policy 
  • Recruit and lead a Sport Publications manager to deliver all pre-Games and Games-time publications required of Sport, including the Sport-related content needed for cross-functional publications 

 Sport Planning, Program Management & Function Reporting 

  • Act as a point of entry in Sport for other LA28 Functions to request sport function information within scope for planning purposes 
  • As required, represent Sport in cross-functional planning forums, ensuring there is a clear understanding of deliverables and addressing the unique requirements within the diverse range of Olympic and Paralympic sports in the program 
  • Author and review Sport updates, presentations and reports to be used internally and externally to communicate progress and issues within the Sport department and to Sport Stakeholders 
  • Validate and update key sport information within the LA28 Games Demand Model and other source of truth documents 
  • Support the development of budgets and projects plans with well researched and validated information 
  • Lead recruitment and hiring of workforce for Sport Services across key workstreams, including Games-time workforce to support Sport Entries 

Sport Projects 

  • Project management support to the development of the overarching Sport Presentation strategy, including liaising with relevant LA28 Functions and external partners (e.g., OBS) and working with the Sport Presentation team on the implementation and timing of sport-specific activities into the DCAS 
  • Project management support to the development of the overarching Victory Ceremony strategy, working with related Functions and external partners (e.g., IOC) to define the timing and protocols for every Olympic and Paralympic sport 
  • Provide comprehensive support to the VP, Sport in managing and executing ad hoc strategic projects, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational objectives 

Background & Qualifications:

  • 7+  years’ experience in stakeholder and program management, ideally in the sports industry 
  • Leadership experience with dynamic teams and directing multiple workstreams 
  • Experience working cross-functionally on project delivery  
  • Extremely detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills  
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to resolve issues  
  • Fluent working with Office suite products including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint  
  • Self-starter with experience in defining tasks, seeking feedback and evolving work  
  • Required proven ability of building good interpersonal relationships with people across the organization, while balancing assertiveness with diplomacy  
  • Ability to implement and manage change effectively  
  • Demonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-making 
  • Experience considering diverse groups of athletes in Sport planning and delivery, with special attention to how ability, gender and other identities impact different athletes’ experiences 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

  • The position is in Los Angeles with in-person attendance required
  • The majority of work may be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment  
  • The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment
  • Occasional travel to venues 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required  

Expectations:

  • Ideal candidate will have knowledge of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Movements, as well as a background in sport and/or event management 
  • Strong communication, team building and interpersonal skills  
  • A collaborative mindset; someone who prioritizes the team and fosters a culture of high performance without ego  
  • An innovative viewpoint, willing to challenge the status quo and think ahead to the future possibilities within the Movement  
  • Ability to work effectively in a close team environment

The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000.00 - $140,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
