What you’ll be doing

We’re looking for a Product Designer Contractor to join our Lab37 Team. Please note this contract role is 3 months long with no possibility of extension. 

You’ll be presented with existing interfaces across our internal tools ecosystem: robot user interfaces, task scheduling, inventory tracking hardware, manager dashboards, and performance metrics tracking. Your role will be to build a coherent, elegant, and unique design system unifying the products across these multiple platforms and devices.We believe that intuitive, beautiful, and well organized user interfaces are crucial to the success of our food operations. Prototyping, testing, and iterating are our DNA and we expect that a successful candidate will have demonstrated experience using this process.

Leveraging AI to supercharge how we design, sell, and support: Explore, design, and implement AI-powered solutions for our customers as well as internal tools for our design team. Our goal is to smartly leverage AI to scale our business and make smarter, faster decisions.

Enhancing our design system: Contribute and improve core patterns that support consistency across our products.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a design system that unites our internal tools
  • Incorporate branded elements into our design system
  • Thorough documentation of design systems
  • Exploration into future interfaces and UI opportunities
  • Incorporating AI workflows using Claude Design and Claude Code
  • User research, testing, feedback, and design iteration

 

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of UI/UX design experience — portfolio that shows full design system implementation
  • Experience with various hardware beyond just iOS
  • Strong typography and layout fundamentals
  • Proficiency in Figma (required) – all systems will be built in Figma and utilized via Claude MCP (or whatever’s next)
  • Ability to work within an existing brand
  • Comfortable in a startup/build environment — you'll be setting up systems, not just using them
  • A passion for food and helping restaurateurs succeed!
  • Strong full-stack design skills; from interaction design to visual design to system thinking, and everything in between.
  • A proven track record of building products from the ground up and working effectively with cross-functional partners.
  • An ability to be a strategic partner by helping to understand the competitive environment and shape a vision for how our products will fit in the market.
  • A team player who is a proactive communicator, has no ego, and loves to collaborate with others. 
  • Sound judgement that combines data with instinct to build the right thing and meet business objectives.

Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.

The base salary range for this role is $69/hr - $85/hr

Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
