Veterinary Assistant/Kennel Attendant - Emerald City Emergency Clinic (Seasonal)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Seasonal Kennel Attendant/Veterinary Assistant delivers a high standard of care to all patients while supporting a safe, clean, and positive environment for pets, clients, and team members.

Patient Care & Monitoring

  • Provide clean, comfortable housing, including fresh bedding for each patient
  • Ensure continuous access to clean water and offer approved treats as appropriate
  • Monitor and record food intake, water consumption, and elimination in SmartFlow; communicate concerns to the Med-Ops team
  • Walk and provide appropriate enrichment based on each patient’s care plan
  • Perform routine wellness checks throughout the day to ensure patient safety and comfort
  • Maintain and return patient belongings in good condition 

Hospital Cleanliness & Organization

  • Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, runs, and treatment areas
  • Maintain cleanliness in high-use spaces, including treatment counters and shared equipment
  • Keep common areas tidy, including break rooms and restrooms (stocked and cleaned regularly)
  • Manage laundry continuously to support hospital needs
  • Clean and maintain dishes (both patient and staff use as needed)
  • Remove trash and reduce clutter throughout the hospital
  • Restock supplies in treatment areas and refill bottles for Med-Ops use
  • Report low or needed supplies via the Inventory List

Protocols & Compliance

  • Follow all established cleaning and sanitation protocols for:
    • Surgery suites
    • Isolation areas
    • Kennels (contagious and non-contagious)
    • Exam rooms (contagious and non-contagious)

Clinical Support

  • Assist with patient restraint for procedures such as venipuncture, catheter placement, fluid therapy, and diagnostic imaging
  • Assist with diagnostic imaging, including radiographs and ultrasound
  • Assist with pre-surgical preparation of both patients and the surgical suite for 
    emergency procedures

Client Support

  • Cross-train with the CSR team to assist during busy periods, including:
    • Answering phones
    • Reviewing estimates
    • Processing payments
    • Supporting clients and reviewing discharge instruction

Compensation Range

$22 - $26 USD
