Job Summary
Langan is seeking a Transmission & Energy Siting and Permitting Lead to join a growing and experienced energy siting, licensing, and engineering team with both local and national project opportunities. There is opportunity for professional and technical growth in a strong, stable and technically excellent practice. This position is responsible for leading GIS analysis and routing support for power infrastructure projects, including electric transmission lines and power generation siting efforts. The role is intended first and foremost for a routing lead with strong experience in transmission siting, knowledge of applicable permitting requirements, and advanced GIS capabilities to identify and apply the most effective tools for each project. The successful candidate will use advanced geospatial tools and industry knowledge to support routing studies, constraints mapping, alternatives analysis, and permitting processes while working closely with multidisciplinary project teams and clients.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and lead GIS-based routing analyses for linear infrastructure projects, including transmission line siting and alternatives analysis;
- Prepare constraint mapping, suitability modeling, and corridor identification to support project development and permitting;
- Analyze and integrate environmental, land use, engineering, and socio-economic datasets into project deliverables;
- Support NEPA and state/local permitting efforts through GIS mapping, exhibit creation, and data management;
- Produce high-quality maps, figures, and technical exhibits for reports, client presentations, and regulatory submissions;
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and project managers to align technical analyses with project objectives;
- Assist with proposal development, including technical approach and GIS/routing strategy;
- Mentor junior GIS staff and provide technical guidance on geospatial best practices;
- Maintain data quality, organization, and documentation standards across projects; and,
- Stay current on GIS technologies, routing tools, and power/energy industry trends.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, or related field;
- GIS certification (e.g., GISP) preferred;
- 4+ years of GIS experience, with a focus on routing, siting, or linear infrastructure projects;
- Demonstrated experience supporting electric transmission, pipeline, or similar infrastructure routing projects;
- Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and spatial analysis tools;
- Experience with least-cost path analysis, suitability modeling, and constraint mapping;
- Familiarity with environmental permitting processes (e.g., NEPA, State CPCN) and associated data layers;
- Strong data management and geospatial analysis skills;
- Ability to translate complex spatial data into clear, actionable insights;
- Strong attention to detail and high-quality deliverable standards;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including map/exhibit storytelling;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment;
- Ability to occasionally participate in field work, as needed; and,
- Occasional travel to project sites, client offices, and other office locations.

Certain US jurisdictions require Langan to include an estimate of salary or hourly ranges. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills. Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program. Bonuses are discretionary and based on individual job performance and the profitability of the firm. Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience and level.
Pay Range
$76,000 - $110,000 USD
