Since 1984, Larkin Street Youth Services has helped more than 75,000 young adults in San Francisco with outreach, shelter, housing, education, employment, healthcare, and other services.
Today, Larkin Street Youth Services is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless youth in the Bay Area. We serve 1,500 youth annually, operating or partnering to provide more than 500 emergency shelter, transitional, supportive, and subsidy-based housing beds at several unique sites across San Francisco.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Under the direction and guidance of the Program Manager, The Housing Developer is crucial in guiding clients through finding and securing leases in scattered-site apartments within Larkin Street’s Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) programs. Offering tailored support, the Developer ensures the housing search aligns with the client’s needs and financial capabilities, collaborating closely with government agencies, community organizations, and property owners for comprehensive client assistance.
This is a full-time position, eligible for full benefits.
Your responsibilities:
Housing and Service Collaborations
- Cultivate a wide network of landlord and service partners to enhance participant options, aiming to reduce the need and duration of program assistance.
- Build and sustain relationships with landlords and property managers to advocate for client housing needs, ensuring consistent access to safe and suitable housing.
- Address and mediate conflicts between clients and landlord/property managers, promote positive rental relationships.
- Implement streamlined referral and facilitate “warm hand-offs” for smooth transitions to ongoing support services.
Client Support Services
- Carries small caseload of up to 4 clients, providing case management and housing acquisition support.
- Offer accessible, empathetic, and impartial support for securing housing.
- Evaluate client eligibility and identify specific housing and support needs to provide tailored assistance.
- Educate clients about their tenant rights and responsibilities, promoting informed and successful tenancies.
- Assist clients in finding housing opportunities and negotiate lease terms on their behalf to secure favorable terms.
- Partner with client’s case manager to address housing challenges, providing specialized support to ensure housing success.
- Guide clients toward additional services or programs enhancing their ability to achieve and sustain housing stability.
- Provide limited after-care support and follow-up for clients up to a year after exit.
Data-Driven Support
- Collect data in real-time using various client management systems to track clients served and services provided.
- Utilize Housing Transitions and Stabilization data reports to maintain and support client engagement, ensuring their housing stability.
- Maintain detailed records of activities and document client interactions.
- The nature of the position means that adjustments may be necessary based on insights gained and experience with program implementation, especially as the program becomes fully enrolled. Housing developer may be called on to support other Larkin Street scattered site programs.
Leadership Support
- Provide crisis management to maintain a safe and supportive environment for clients and staff.
- Provide support to direct service staff in program as needed.
Program Policies, Procedures, and Quality Improvement
- Adhere to policies and procedures that encourage progressive engagement practices
- Participate in training sessions to stay informed and effective.
- Regularly review practices, program outputs and outcomes to identify and implement necessary improvements.
- Demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a strong emphasis on detail orientation and the ability to work both within a team and independently.
- Proficiency in database management and technological tools, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Expense Reporting systems.
- Participation in organizational meetings, client activities, and continuous professional development through at least bi-monthly training sessions.
- Flexibility to provide services during evenings and weekends as needed by the program.
- Adherence to confidentiality, discretion, and HIPAA compliance standards.

- You have some social services case management experience.

- You are most excited to serve Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), aged 18 to 25 of diverse backgrounds.

- You work best in mostly in person, hybrid working environment. This role requires travel throughout the Bay Area to support clients and housing partners.
- You are willing to work holidays occasionally.
- You hold a valid driver's license.
- You are vaccinated against COVID 19.

- +$3,000 for bilingual incentive pay. Must be fluent in Spanish and English.
