Forklift Operator/Utility Helper

This position is in a high paced and high-volume Mfg. environment.  Will be responsible for the day-to-day loading and unloading of wire/metal product on to large press machines including unloading freight from receiving containers using propane-powered forklifts.  Dual function as Utility helper; stack material, operate press machines, relieve for breaks, etc.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Loading and unloading freight in a safe and efficient manner using propane-powered forklifts and digital freight scanners.
  2. Loading wire/metal product on to press machines in a safe and efficient manner.
  3. When not operating forklift will work as Operator and utility help moving pallets and loading material on to press machines
  4. Working as part of a cross-functional team, helping other team members as needed
  5. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Competencies and Abilities

1. Must be able to follow all Company safety policies and procedures on forklift operation to ensure safe work environment for self and other team members.
2. Must be able to operate sit-down propane lift.
3. May be required to use RF scanner guns.
4. Must be able to comprehend English in written and verbal format.
5. Must possess basic reading and math skills. Some basic computer knowledge may be required.
6. Must be able to follow detailed instructions, processes, and procedures.
7. Must be able to identify product packaging defects and communicate to leadership.
8. Must be a self-starter and able to work under minimal supervision.
9. Forklift certification per OSHA standards is beneficial.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Regularly sitting on a powered industrial truck
• Frequently lift to 50 pounds and adjust body position to bend, stoop, stand, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time
• Having a good sense of balance
• Having good eye-hand-foot coordination
• Ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights
• Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Office environment is a controlled atmosphere building, as well as a manufacturing environment exposed to
dust, odors, and noise.
